I didn't feel comfortable joining because of the "college students" part of the name. I don't want people getting the wrong idea when they see it on their news feed that I joined such a group. Take that out of the name, and I'll join up. :p

I felt that way maybe 18 months ago, when I heard Meh talking about ... but thought it was just for college students. I still see people there who think it just be for college students again.
(But if anyone desperately feels the need to friend me, I'm here.)
I'm the creator of the RJD club, if anyone wants to friend me.

^ Fixed. I had that only my friends could search for me, but changed now. Added also. There are a few oolder posters out-there, but coaster isn't yet.

Be sure to join the RJDiogenes Fan Club. It's been a little slow lately. :rommie:

I just did. 20 loyal fans!
Thank you. Yes, indeed, there's a groundswell of grass roots support. I'm sort of like Barack Obama. :rommie:

Welcome ... I just thought of something evil.
Uh oh....

Just found the TrekBBS group on myspace too... neither of those pages are real active, are they?
There's an LJ group, too, I believe.

Facebook confuses the hell out of me, actually. :rommie:

I don't understand you kids, with the myspace and facebook. When I was a kid we hung out with our friends. We didn't scrawl unintelligible messages to each other or publish pictures of ourselves acting like idiots and whores. As a rule we tried to AVOID having such photos taken. And if any of us was worth getting to know, people in the real world made a point of getting to know us.
Now everyone thinks they're worthy of a published biography. Everyone needs to recount their every stray thought (and I use the term loosely) as if it was cast-off gold. Every harsh word or traffic infraction is a major incident that has to be dissected and pored over and commented on as though it were the talmud.
I don't understand it for celebrities, and I sure as hell don't understand it for nobodies.
Hell, my generation wanted to live OFF the grid.
But maybe we just weren't as important.

^ I don't "get" social networking either (my idea of 'myspace' is somewhere well away from public exposure), but I don't think it is the result of a sense of self-importance.

The most logical explanation to me is that they're yet another sublimated form of mating behaviour. Most social networking profiles are carefully tailored glimpses into people's personal lives. Pictures that make you look handsome or pretty, not fat. Bands that make you seem hip, not behind the times. A first impression that's viewable to millions of potential partners, and completely under your control.

Well I'm not young (32 in a few days) but I see the value of Facebook primarily as a way of keeping up with a select number of friends who I don't see in person regularly due to distance or busy lives (read kids).

Better than emailing photo's to people who may or may not care just upload them on their and if your friends want to look at them they can. It allows you to spend as much or as little time keeping up with the lives of friends as you want.

^That's my primary use: keeping up with old friends. Graduated H.S. last year, and literally everyone I knew went to the state university. I was the only moron to stay at our community college. So, as one may imagine, I don't exactly get to see them a lot in person.

As others have said, I use Facebook primarily to keep in touch with old friends (high school, college, church, etc.). Hell, thanks to Facebook, I've managed to reconnect with a couple of friends I hadn't seen in years.

Yeah, I use facebook mostly to talk to the people in high school I don't hate, when I want to send a message to a college friend who's number I don't have, or when I want to insult my brother. It's been nice getting in touch with old friends (I've even received friend requests from people I knew in Elementary School).

I have crackbook. I actually use it for practical purposes though. I use it to coordinate events with my friends and to get a hold of them if I don't have their phone number or email.

I have a question. I thought Facebook was only for college students? That's how it was when I signed up 2 years ago. I had to petition the site to allow people from our university to join, and you couldn't sign up unless you had a college email account. I hardly ever use the site so I'm not up on the details of any changes.

Now my mom and little sister in high school have accounts - what happened?! The whole damn point of Facebook was that only college students were allowed.

One could go farther back than that and say "The whole damn point of Facebook was that only Harvard students were allowed."

Facebook has expanded to allow anyone. Get over it.

I admit this is really pathetic of me, but I have become totally addicted to the facebook Fluff application, and the recent egghunt game they've been having.

:o

Please someone else admit the same. Pleeeez?

Waa - I found the group but I don't know who anyone is!! I have been away too long. Someone mentioned mrcoaster - but I can't find him!
005 and I had a brief contest to see who had more pictures of the infamous mod, but quickly lost interest. So he's not actually there - just lovely pictures.

I've lost interest in facebook recently. I didn't consciously try and escape, like I did with AIM and Trekbbs, but all the same I check it maybe once a week now, if that, instead of several times a day.
