Ok. What is the chance of a Picard spinoff?

It's just an old custom around these parts to bold another poster's handle; from before we had the option to tag the poster with the @.
Ah gotcha, I'd just never seen it in a positive context.

Meanwhile, the petition just hit 40,000 signatures!

So how likely is it now?

I'm gunna say pretty likely.
I'm going to say maybe not. Remember that any Legacy show will not be featuring the characters that got you the 98% audience response in a major way. Paramount+ and everyone is aware of this.

I just don't see a Seven of Nine, Raffi & Jack series generating the same response as the Nostalgia with all the original TNG characters back together was what got that rating on Rotten Tomatoes. The other two seasons without these characters all together is what you'd eventually see with a legacy series of just those three characters and an occasional Cameo of anyone who's still alive from TNG when they finally get around to doing something if they do it.

If I mention a poster's username, I bold it. Positive, negative, neutral, doesn't matter. I'm old school. I do things the way we did them here in 1999. I only do the @____ thing if I'm not sure someone's going to read it.

Aside from that, I wouldn't have changed the order if anything negative was intended. I'd be like, "No! I'm keeping it this way, because ____, _____, and ____. Not to mention ______."

Ahh, apologies if you took anything negative from the comment. I'm just used to seeing it used in negative contexts (especially on this BBS), so made the joke about it.

Then again, it won't cost anywhere NEAR as much as bringing back the TNG cast.

Missed the top ten of the latest Nielsen streaming ratings (27 March to 2 April) again.

Of the five weeks P+ has been included, it only made it for the 13-19 March data. That was the fifth episode, Imposters - curious that the return of Geordi, Data and Troi in the following episode didn't draw in more viewers.

Maybe it’s in the top ten because of Worf? And Ro?

Key differences:

-This season was better written. To the point they allowed the majority to be previewed so we didn't get as buckwacked as audiences did in Seasons 1 and 2, making reviewers look like fools.

-Apparently had less "interference" from Sir Patrick.

-There's a massive ole bag of people they can call from that aren't the TNG cast from two other shows, namely Voyager, DS9 etc which we already know Matalas wanted more of in this season but had no time or budget. (Even the surprise cameo at the end was unpaid)

-With binge watching and streaming a lot of other shows are getting their "fair" shot, DS9 and even wobbly Voyager writing is being seen differently, and people will be curious.

-Nostalgia, and nostalgia-baiting/memberberrying is seen as a "safe" bet for studios to throw money at. Hence our endless remakes instead of trying to evolve IPs.

If its written well and a bit like "whatever happened to..." as a bit of a plot premise, then it should work quite nicely as a show and have a good enough draw with that continuity element to draw people back in.

Memberberries aren't going to be enough.

We have a new crew (The La Forge sisters, Jack, Mura, Esma, Dr. Ohk, etc.). The last thing anyone wants is a weekly nostalgia trip.

Let's do something with the new people.

I think there will be a Legacy series, it just makes sense to build on the positive reaction to Picard's third season. It's already worked well for them when they gave Pike, Number One, and Spock a series based off the positive reaction to Discovery's second season. Now, I'm not so sure that there will be a Legacy series with the same cast on the Enterprise-G at the end of Picard. I see Captain Seven, Sidney La Forge, some of the Titan crewmembers involved, but I don't see Jack or Raffi sticking around on the G. There's also nothing stopping them from bringing back Legacy characters for the Enterprise. I mean, they could have The Doctor as the new chief medical officer, someone from DS9 or VOY for security chief, and so forth, to really keep the legacy theme going. And the door would always be open to them bringing back TNG characters as well, like the new Data, Captain Worf, and Commodore La Forge. The Picard series itself also now has other legacy characters and they could also be on the series.

The world building that Picard didn't focus on just is too good, and too easy, for them not to do a Legacy series and expand on the 25th century that Picard only gave the audience tidbits about.

Terry Matalas has said that he wants to bring back Jack.

Something to bear in mind is that even if Legacy were to be be greenlit tomorrow, it would take a while to produce. Discovery S2 premiered in 2019, but Strange New Worlds didn't premiere until 2022. If Legacy follows the same timeline, it won't premiere until 2026.

Of course not. If it continues to be well done and people like it, not enough folks will care about the timeline to drive P+'s decisions.

Like, to no extent whatever will they care.

Of course, the show could end at five, or four years for other reasons - STD just did. But if the numbers are working for them, no one in an office will say, "Well, we'd like to keep going but it's time for Captain Kirk so we have to pull the plug."

Yes bring back Ed Speelers as Jack Crusher he wants to reprise his role and enjoys doing Star Trek.

Perhaps there is a logistical reason for the delay in announcing a 25th century Trek continuation? Whether that be Legacy or not?
