'Star Trek: Picard' in the top 10 of original streaming programs

Ever hear the term "review bomb"?

It's an organized effort by a group of "fans" (or a few people with multiple accounts) who post negative reviews with the intention of demeaning the final product.

"Fan" reviews on IMDB (and Rotten Tomatoes) are to be taken with a front end loader full of salt. :shifty:

You don’t have the slightest evidence for your claim that Disco got review bombed. Especially considering the fact that season 1 was received rather positively. The reviews were bad because the story was dragged, not all actors were professionals and it just didn’t feel like good tv.

Season 1 and 2 of Picard had similar issues. SNW is episodic, so you can’t really compare this show to the all-season storyline shows. If you produce a connected, 10 episode storyline season, you’ll need a different kind of screenwriters. Season 3 of Picard received overwhelmingly positive reviews because it is very elegantly executed. I am not even a fan of the overarching memberberry references, they could have toned it down. But the suspense, the artistic delivery and the acting is just superior to everything we had in the other NuTrek series. And i am explicitly including Michelle Yeoh here, who obviously is a prodigy actress but just got her talents wasted by the nonsensical mirror universe storyline.

Yes, ushering in a popular spinoff (SNW) and leading to 5, count them, FIVE!, TV shows airing concurrently and a TV movie centered on an Oscar winning actress and Discovery cast member.

No shows to 5 + streaming movies. Oh, such damage!
Someday, someone will explain to me the logic of the "damage" done to a fictional franchise when the originals are still viewable.

People enjoy new content, people don’t live forever, people want good tv.

This no good tv, this only much tv, much tv is not good tv, locborg want good tv

Then watch Succession. Watch Shrinking. Ted Lasso. The Morning Show. The Handmaid's Tale. Yellowstone. That's good TV.

Picard season 3 is pretty danged close to fanfic on the screen.

I don't say this easily, but the Nostalgia Factor is real. People like Picard Season 3 (including myself) because, at least to some extent, it makes them back to TNG.
Not for me. Having the characters from TNG is nice but the serialized format and tone isn't anything like TNG. It feels more like TNG characters visiting DS9 in it's later seasons.
People like SNW (including myself to a lesser degree) because, at least to some extent, it makes them think of TOS.
Agreed. SNW is like TOS with a larger budget and better production values. Plus with so many shows being serialized, going back to the old episodic format is a refreshing change. It's nice to have a show that you can miss an episode or two and not be lost.

I am enjoying this season because I wanted to see these characters get a good and proper send off. Granted, I think "All Good Things" did this beautifully, but since they went ahead with movies, I wanted another good and proper send off. The story is incidental to me. I honestly don't care what Jack Crusher's deal is, whether or not the Borg are back or yet another universe ending plot by a big bad. I do wish the threat were of a smaller scale and more focused on the TNG mythos. I loved the idea of the original cast being hunted as teased before the premiere. It felt like an old enemy with a personal grudge (I was waiting for Vadic's connection to them). But the only reason why I'm not actually disappointed is because I am having a fun reunion with old friends, which is literally all I expected. Do I really need references to every Star Trek ever? Nah, but they can be fun and a lot of people like them. I am getting out of this what I want and the extra stuff is there for people who love it. I begrudge you nothing.

For those who don't like it, I totally get it. You wanted something more than what they're doing. Sorry you don't like it.

Are the ratings better than any other ST show? Shit, who cares? It's over after today. I will say this: the novelty of this season would wear thin if continually repeated. It's like "hey Star Trek IV worked great because of the gags, let's add more gags to the next one." Womp womp.

Finally, not all Star Trek shows will resonate with everyone. Enjoy what you like. Discuss and debate all day, it's what fans do. But jeez, the anger really needs to be tempered. Don't read text with your preconceptions, they don't always match the intent of the person typing. And in the end it's just TV. And I feel that people who get truly worked up over disposable entertainment need to get out and make more real life friends, go on more trips and appreciate the changing colors of the seasons. Let's not make this like Facebook.

Missing from the top ten for the following week (20-26 March).

Interesting. Perhaps it’s not as many individual viewers as one might think. The episode that dropped that week was “The Bounty,” which, in my opinion, was a big step down from the previous week’s “Imposters,” arguably the best episode of the season.
