Spoilers Star Trek: Picard General Discussion Thread

Four years on Voyager. Probably did more and saw more than any newly fledged cadet.

I don't see how that made Seven qualified to be a Commander and a First Officer within a year or so.

Shaw chose her according to Terry. Starfleet didn't force her on him.
Which is consistent with what we've seen before, Captain's get to choose their XOs.

He probably did it to keep an eye on her.

Let me get this straight. Shaw had chosen Seven to be his First Officer, despite his trauma and grudge against the Borg (especially Picard) from Wolf 359?

I just see sloppy writing. Then again, I've been seeing a lot of it in many shows and movies lately.

It would have been nice to have some enlightenment as to Shaw’s motivations regarding Seven. Keeping an eye on her or challenging himself to reach a new level of understanding.’

We actually don’t know.

This image from the trailer for the final episode would make for some incredible wallpaper.

Incredible the amount of detail they did for this.

The saucer is still scorched from entering the atmosphere of Veridian III and a different color than the stardrive section from the USS Syracuse.

I love those touches. Geordi fixed up and polished what mattered but left the external hull bruised and scratched up. Now that's an engineer for you. Get her flying and functional again and worry about the coat of paint later.

The other answer might make people uncomfortable. Shaw had a list of names, CVs, photos, etc. Seven's a pretty blonde woman. That DOESN'T mean that Shaw was planning anything inappropriate, intending to leverage/force a relationship, etc. on her that would rightfully get him expelled from Starfleet. He might not even be consciously aware that her attractive looks factor in his decision. But studies do show that attractive people still get hired or get positions over equally or even more qualified people who aren't as good looking. That's my headcanon for it, like I said it's probably an uncomfortable line of thought but I also don't believe that Shaw would ever consciously do anything inappropriate or illegal but nevertheless he's human and subconsciously may have been affected by Seven's good looks.
