Third time's the charm for a Cruel Intentions TV show. After a scrapped Fox prequel series 20+ years ago with Amy Adams in the Sarah Michelle Gellar role that was recut, upped to a R-rating and repackaged as Cruel Intentions 2, and then an actual sequel 15+ years later with Sarah Michelle Gellar that NBC passed on, Amazon is making their own version now that will be its own thing and not tied to the original movie.

I will never forget being a teenager flipping through channels and randomly coming across a promo for the Fox series on Entertainment Tonight, which consisted entirely of Amy Adams grinding herself to orgasm on a horses saddle while another girl kept yelling "Harder!" until she fell to the ground after cumming and said "So that's why girls like horses so much."

We're on our fifth live action movie Bruce Wayne in a decade. The guy now in charge is in charge because he famously gutted all quality programming and turned educational programming stations into cheap lowest common denominator. He cancelled entire movies for tax write off and pulled original content from his own streaming service because he thinks he can make more money selling them to Amazon. There is no interest in creativity, art, or quality, only shareholder value. And the books are proven money makers, while the only time they tried something else it failed, so more versions of the books is what we are going to keep on getting.

Well, thing is about Bruce Way and Batman in general is that they've had decades of material to draw from and can afford to come up with new interesting takes and storylines with each iteration. So, at least there's that But if they stick to HP books, again they'll be a narrow scope and there are only so many times you can keep doing that, especially when the movies are just as beloved as the books. There will be diminishing returns.

You're talking like you're the target audience. You aren't. Nobody here is. The target audience for this is currently 7 years old. They don't care that it was already made into a movie 25 years previously. There is no brand dilution for them. This is for Gen Alpha, and not even the older ones. Think about when you were ten. Would the fact a movie came out about your fav book that was made 15 years before you were born impact your viewing habits? I know when I was 10 in the 90's nobody my age was watching movies from 1968. [Edit: Or cared that a new TV show coming out was already a movie from 1968]

This is bringing Harry Potter to a generation with no connection to the original movies. It's growing the franchise generationally without the risk of a new product in the same IP.

Inevitably there will also be major differences, a 13ish (let's say) tv series vs a 2 hour movie based on a book.

I think the "Harry Potter" name is a draw. So a new class or a new school wouldn't have that.

Well, most of us were not the target audience for the books or the movies in the first place when they came out, yet they were incredibly popular even for adults to the point that the books came out with adult-oriented covers. And yes, I watched a ton of older stuff when I grew up, including stuff made before I was born. If it's good, I've probably tracked it down. And sometimes I like to see the differences between versions.

Sure, NF still has some good shows but it's hardly a secret that they're struggling to keep/produce successful content at a sufficient level now that most of the big studios (who used to supply content to them) have their own streaming services. As noted here:

Netflix appears to have a penchant for pissing off consumers by canceling shows. Not only does it prevent viewers from connecting to a story, but it also fuels the unhealthy binge-watching culture. Case in point, Netflix canceled Resident Evil after just one season and Space Force didn't get renewed. More successful shows, like 1899, were also discontinued, which is rather baffling,​

Netflix has been losing subscribers for at least year and, as a result, their shows aren't as popular as they once were, Wednesday aside. To name just two examples, the most recent season of "the Crown" did not do well and ‘The Witcher: Blood Origin’ has Netflix’s worst audience score of all time (There is some evidence that Cavill fans review-bombed the latter, but that only tends to indicate "the Witcher" is itself in trouble having lost its star). Further, there are reports that Netflix isn't competently marking its new shows, leaving potentially promising series to get cancelled. As for Sandman, as good as it was, at one point, even Neil Gaiman wasn't sure it was getting renewed.

So, yeah, it's hardly a stretch to think that they're desperate to keep the brand series going, even if it's kind of pointless.

Netflix does need more hits but I am doubting a cartoon extension of Stranger Things is going to cut it. They will need a live action show IMO to really get lots of buzz off the Stranger Things name.

I think ST is something of a victim of its own success. IIRC, the original concept was more of an anthology style one (not unlike True Detective or AHS) where different seasons would take place in different locations,times and/or with different characters, but the S1 kids were so popular that they were "stuck" with them. Of course, now the kids are grown up and, as a result, I think NF is doing the animated series as a way to keep using these characters well past their potential expiration date.

I'm just happy that The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel's new season has been released over on Amazon. Sad that it's the last season, but I've enjoyed the entire run.

Stargate is getting a movie, then a TV show. RoboCop is getting a TV show, then a movie. Legally Blonde is getting a movie and TV show at the same time (whether or not this is Legally Blonde 3 remains to be seen).

Fame, Barbershop and The Magnificent Seven are getting TV shows (anyone remember the short-lived Magnificent Seven TV series with Michael Biehn and Ron Perlman?). The Pink Panther, Poltergeist and The Thomas Crown Affair are getting movies.

There are already plans for Creed/Rocky spinoffs for movies and TV, and there's also a possibility of Stallone bringing Rocky to TV.

Yep. Got it a few years ago on DVD (and had an avatar from it for a little while). I don't think I've seen all the early films (Certainly seen the first and the remake) but I don't think I've seen all the sequels.

Mildly curious about the Robocop and Stargate ones though.
