I wasn't wild about this episode, but I don't have any problems with this part of it. We all knew it was coming, and it was beautifully done.
Love how Geordi decided to remove all the Generations side panels and steps. He even took away Worf's chair.
That's what I thought too. It might be a couple of different clips combined.
Like with the 1701-E, there's a tantalizing narrative gap that's almost begging to be asked as to what transpired...
The 1701-E dialogue is the larger issue to salivate over, but it's okay. If there are future shows or movies, it's obviously a potential spoiler-to-be that we won't know about.
As for 1701-D, Geordi definitely wanted to return it to its pre-refit state. Can't blame him; I recently bought a couple of computers made in 1979 and restored them to a condition I'd feel as "ideal", despite weathering and related issues. Anyone doing restoration can really appreciate his desires and efforts. That scene works on so many levels; and in a season that's already sparkling with life. This is another reason that renders this season a very worthy sequel in my book. One that even recognizes NEM and doesn't retcon it out. That's even more impressive and can even retroactively elevate it.
Even Troi gets written in ways that she should have had in TNG and it doesn't feel contrived. To compare, NEM - while contriving any number of dumb things - implies she has some shiny new abilities as well, but the quality of the NEM scene's writing doesn't come close and promptly fall flat. If a new feature is added, really make one wish they used it before instead of being an empty plot point as hollow exposition. PIC season 3 succeeds with Troi's empathic abilities. NEM did not. In that regard, IMHO & YMMV. (A shame, as I maintain NEM could easily have been a classic, if they decluttered 50 to 70% of what they shoved into it for the empty sake of "BIG EPIC MOVIE SCREEN FOR THE THRILL OF IT". But I will rate NEM high enough because the potential is there and they were on the right track, with terrific casting and acting despite the script. But I digress.)
Majel's voice could have been clips cut together, which also proves that Wesley's gadget from "The Naked Now" works!

Anyone got any nitpicks? I felt the ramps should be steeper and the aft upper section was too low.
Who am I kidding? They did an incredible job. I was honestly amazed.
