I signed it today and so did five of my friends, not counting those on here. I love the idea of getting another series in the 24th/25th Century, or "the present." I'm a big fan of Strange New Worlds too, but it's retro and nostalgic. The 32nd Century seems more Star Wars-like to me in that nothing seems to really change all that much regardless how many centuries or millennia seem to have gone by. This was ENT's problem for me, too – going into the 22nd Century to do a 24th show.
Ideally I'd like two 25th Century shows. Is that asking too much? Well I grew up having TNG *and DS9, DS9 *and VOY, so... One show that takes a proven Matalas and gives him free reign to play with all the old shows from the Berman Era, to bring back old actors that are still with us and old storylines that we all know and love, and mixes them in this new 25th Century setting with new characters.
And a second show that gives us a new ship, with maybe a gay or trans captain, on "the far end" of Federation space away from everything in the first series, and that does what TNG did, giving us in this new time period new ships and characters and aliens (Ferengi, Cardassians, Borg) and interesting new characterizations for the few old aliens it does occasionally revisit (Klingons).
Probably need a new show runner of the second series...not Chabon who's more of a TOS fan and busy elsewhere anyway, and not Goldsman who's got SNW and really left me cold after PIC S2.
