The Terry Matalas as Star Trek Showrunner Petition

What? There’s no way something like that is allowed. I will protest vehemently, most vehemently to the Council of YouTube Insiders. There WILL be consequences. Mark my words.:scream:
Oh shit, don't tell me the YouTubers will do a special on me?! (10 Quatloos if you get the reference.)

Right. I've got to be anti something. Hmm. Can't just like and dislike according to my whims. Got it!

Well, the folks at home will enjoy the special, in living colour. Plus, we’ll reserve a ten-minute spot for a short film on the latest generation of the Jupiter 8, brought to you by one of our proud sponsors. Now available in both gasoline and EV drivetrains. :techman:

We'd have to have one season first...

Indeed, and failing to stick the landing will have a big impact on how it's viewed. Trek has never been good at ending drawn-out stories, and this one has been particularly drawn out (with the last two episodes ending on the verge of a reveal). I'm sure there will be plenty of complaints over it being/not being Borg/Pah-Wraiths/Armus/some other obscure thing that someone had headcanoned.

I think he's talking about the divisions as they currently are.
Yes. It's very different than the differences over say ENT. Probably because it bleeds much more into real life.

Can't we all just get along?
I'd hope so. I try and engage in good faith when I stop by. Unfortunately I've had to use the ignore button more than once on others who have personally attacked me.

Wouldn't anti-anti-NuTrek be PRO-NuTrek?
This is much more over on Planet Twitter. Anti-anti-NuTrek are the people that are so Pro-NuTrek that they are turned off by anti-NuTrek people that like PICARD season 3. So they don't like PICARD season 3 because people they don't like -- like it. Again, Twitter tribalism...

Indeed. Petitions are silly. I have even signed it and I’m friends with Terry.

Twitter is much more effective (ESPECIALLY if you can get in Alex Kurtzman's/P+'s faces  ).

It's coming from people more connected to the situation then yourself.

Enough projecting

You asked a question you knew the answer to, just to have a circular argument.

Instead of me playing along, Mike and Rich's commentary on Kurtzman Trek on this is far more entertaining.

That's according to your own limited perspective. RMB, Popcast, Cullen, Critical Drinker and the others were given the episodes way in advance and were actually informed about all of this.

And they are still in contact with Terry,Chris and all the others, with interviews coming up.

Kurtzman stepped off to do "Man Who Fell to Earth" and had no creative input on Pic S3, according to them. Terry Matalas was given the budget (a limited one) and full creative control of the season.

Hyperbole, thy name is Fireproof78.

If you're actually so concerned with the divisiveness here, you wouldn't make such silly exaggerated statements as above.

Even under the guise of jest.

Well continue to bury your head in the sand all you want then.

Until you prove you have a better track record than these guys, who are actually in contact with the production and have proven it, you've got nothing.
I'm debating whether I should reply ban you from your own thread, or just close the damn thing.

That's unfortunate to hear. You seem to be a supporter of Terry, but a fairly reasonable one as far as I can tell.

Might be wise to leave it to Twitter then. Sounds nonsensical, like "May that be your last Battlefield " level.

Well, if they hold DS9 up on a pedestal, I'm with them on that! :techman:

But there's certainly be tons of great Trek both before and after that timeframe.
I think they've stonewalled themselves in. DS9 went from "the Star Trek series that was different from the norm" to "the Star Trek series that should be the norm!" And once you think Star Trek should be one way and one way only, you get stuck.

To be honest, I don't fault Terry Matalas for reaching out to people who don't like the rest of New Trek. He wants people who normally wouldn't give another season of Picard the light of day to check out his season.

I can even understand the motivation behind Terry-Trekkers putting out this petition. Between DSC and PIC, I'll have had 95 episodes of what I wanted. Over a span of seven years (2017-2024). I'm all set after this. I'll have had my turn. I consider anything beyond it to be "extra". I'm prepared to let the Star Trek ship sail without me. But them? They've only had 10 episodes of what they want and are hungry for more. So I can understand them wanting more.

I have no problem with Terry Matalas getting to oversee more Trek. PIC S3 isn’t what I wanted (my attraction to PIC was precisely because it was presented as NOT TNG 2.0) but it’s been reasonably entertaining (helps that I have a far less critical gaze for Trek than just about anything else—Bond movies are the other “easy pass”). I would watch more of Matalas’ work.

However, what I CANNOT abide is the mixture of schadenfreude and gatekeeping that a very few (but irritatingly persistent) people are engaging in. The “finally some REAL Trek” and “shitting all over the rest of PIC is just the best thing evah” crowd. That’s just sheer, fucking hubris.

I don't fault him for that either. In fact, in general, I believe it's good thing to meet with your critics and hash things out. A lot of people simply aren't brave enough to do that. So, kudos for him for taking that approach.

I've enjoy this season greatly. And, man, it's awesome to finally get a nice closure for the NG crew!

And to be honest, I'd actually really like a 25th century spinoff of Picard. Would love to see follow-ups to the quadrant shaking events of DS9.

Definitely a cool attitude you have of being all set. I guess I should feel that way after the many years of B&B Trek. While not perfect, it certainly produced a lot of good stories, including my favorite series of DS9.

I think I'll try harder to have the same approach. :techman:

I'm confused ...
Sorry, I wish I could do an analogy but those are so culturally specific. Some people don't like something because other people are supporting it.

That's unfortunate to hear. You seem to be a supporter of Terry, but a fairly reasonable one as far as I can tell.
Haha I came back to NuTrek because Terry was involved in season 2:wah:(12 MONKEYS fan here). Luckily season 3 is... much better. And STLD and PRODIGY are decent watches.

And yeah, sometimes I see some of the posts and go what am I doing here? Why don't I just open Instagram and catch up with like ten people I haven't chatted with in a few months? Well, just gotta watch out for sea lions and mute the bullies while finding out about rumors and speculation much easier than on Reddit....

Might be wise to leave it to Twitter then. Sounds nonsensical, like "May that be your last Battlefield " level.
Well, you do get direct access to most of the writing staff and actors, so it's worth a lurk...

And, the elephant in the room is time marching on. Certain things possible now just might not be possible in 5-10 years.

Especially on a live stream! And some YouTubers DON'T LIKE DISCO... but they have great interviews with other writers and actors. Worth a watch... and it shows how much care and attention to detail they put into the season.
