UK Die-cast company Corgi have announced that they've got the license for making new die-cast models. They've previously done them before in the 80s (small Micro Machine-like ones) and in 2006, with some bigger models like this Galaxy class:

They haven't said which ships they're doing, but they've said they can do ships from any Star Trek. They've expressed an interest in doing the Titan-A.

This is neat! I'll be curious to see what they produce.

I have the TOS Enterprise from 20 years ago. It’s probably the best model of the Enterprise in that scale I have.

I’d bet they focus more on hero ships. So from the newer shows, I’d expect they’ll do the SNW Enterprise and Titan-A, but I bet ships like the most recent Intrepid are probably off the table.

I wouldn’t get my hopes up. The classics are usually bestsellers and they’ll get them out of the door first.

But I’m cautiously optimistic about their delivering of newer hero ships instead of promising vaporware.

exactly. They will use the classics, the most recognizable first to get people hooked. Then mix in the newer and/or more niche stuff.

sorta how the bulk of the new Playmates action figure line was Kirk, Spock, Kahn, Picard, Riker and Data.

If they can do ships from any ST production, then I'd like to see various ships from TAS, such as the U.S.S. Huron, the Orion pirate ship, the long-lost Bonaventure, the Aqua-shuttle and the unnamed alien ship from "Beyond the Farthest Star". I doubt Corgi would produce anything from TAS, but its nice to imagine it happening.

Corgi related: the company is said to have plans to reissue their 1966 Batmobile in a fold-out box similar to the original. No word on release date or price.

Well, that's disappointing. Rights were too expensive for those regions, I guess.

I've always been baffled by CBS/Paramount's licensing. No one ever has an exclusive, which means the licensing costs are probably too much. This rseults in multiple players selling essentially the same things, and since they're relatively niche products no one seems to have success.

Unfortunately, I think the days of seeing one off ships is over, unless one of the 3D print by demand companies steps up to the plate.

Heh, I still have my original Corgi Batmobile, Batboat and Batcopter. Plus, a couple of Space 1999 Eagles.
