The Terry Matalas as Star Trek Showrunner Petition

I don't understand this 'Kurtzman vs Matalas' nonsense. It's childish, puerile and petty. You carry on as if Matalas stormed on the paramount lot and just greenlit and produced Season 3 himself without any input from anyone else. Who exactly do you think chose Matalas in the first place? Kurtzman is in charge of Trek, and he is the one who Matalas reports to. Kurtzman would have known all about what Season 3 would entail and was clearly fine with it given we're all now watching it as Matalas intended. But please, by all means continue stoking the fires of fan division and hatred.

Many of the Youtubers, close to Terry, who were given the first 10 episodes early by Terry have revealed that Kurtzman had no creative input or even awareness of what Terry was doing.

Kurtzman just stepped off to give his full attention to "The Man Who Fell to Earth" and Matalas was given full creative freedom; Kurtzman's best call in the past 6 years.

What exactly is this "Kurtzman brand"? He's done DISCO, which according to some is far off the Trekking path. Picard, which brings back beloved characters. SNW a throwback to episodic TV, Lower Deck a half hour animated sit com and Prodigy an animated kids show. I don't think he'd object to a show about Legacy characters. He's already done two.

Again, this explains in a more entertaining and amusing way than can be conveyed through words on a message board.

Suffice it to say, you must be already aware of the criticisms with Kurtzman and many Nu Trek shows online, and the divisive reactions. So none of this should be earth-shattering at this point.

Bullshit.

They are far more connected than you are.

Robert Meyer Burnett, Popcast and others all received the full 10 episodes way in advance and have personal communication with Terry, Chris Monfette and some of the cast and crew.

They know about what went on behind the scenes to lead to this season where Matalas had full creative control.

I have still yet to cast my vote in support of a Terry Matalas led spin-off series, though at this point I *likely* will do so. We have two Picard episodes to go, and I am hesitant to endorse someone who may not be able to effectively conclude a Star Trek season.
With Vadic now disposed of…
…this season really could go anywhere.

They can say whatever the hell they want. But that's not how television works. Especially a franchise with the importance of Star Trek. They don't just hand off the keys and say "do what you want".

You can be sure that whatever Lord Terry cooked up in his hallowed writers room was run up the line to Kurtzman who gave it a pass.

Like, seriously. Budgets had to be approved. People had to be hired. Contracts signed, etc. All things far above Uber Terry's pay grade.

So your answer to the question is to refer me to a youtube video by a couple of bloviating blowhards with a long standing axe to grind? Ones who probably take statements out of context and put their spin on it, when they aren't just pulling things directly out of their asses. Sorry, hard pass.
I miss the days when you could ask a question and get a well formed and articulate answer, instead of "Here watch this video that confirms my biases."

Yup. What makes me the most sad is all the claims of a "divided fan base " and then the deliberate effort to pit production team members against each other.

The trick is to have the right people tell the right people what to hate or what to like at the right time.

Abrams served up nostalgia-fests with recycled plot devices duct-taped together and he got derision. Matalas does it this time with far less lighting, and he's the Angry Trek Fans' savior. Somewhere in the middle its just a bunch of movies and shows you can like or not.

He might pair Matalas with someone else (Kirsten Beyer? An outsider?)
That would actually be a really good pairing for a Janeway/Seven miniseries

After Starfleet Academy fails in 2 short seasons perhaps they will realize and fund more Star Trek like Picard season 3. The buzz around this season is incredible and s3 has done more for Star Trek than 4 seasons of Discovery, a show which heavily divides the fanbase.
Kurtzman's deal is up in 2026. The economy is shifting and streaming continues to contract. Paramount has new management. Who knows if there's even a WGA strike next month?

I'm giving it a few months before I get too pessimistic about a Legacy not happening.

Bull fucking shit. That is not how TV shows or movies work.

It's coming from people more connected to the situation then yourself.

Enough projecting

You asked a question you knew the answer to, just to have a circular argument.

Instead of me playing along, Mike and Rich's commentary on Kurtzman Trek on this is far more entertaining.
