So basically change is great so long as it's an alien species people don't care about and if you don't have a memory of the alien?

If I don't care and don't notice then I won't notice or care.

But I like change. Like when Riker grew a beard, or when Cardassians abandoned Bajor and the Federation moved in, or when the Enterprise D crashed and was replaced with the Enterprise E. The Klingons making peace with the Federation, that was a good change. I hope Star Trek keeps giving me changes. But if anyone tries to change TNG so that Riker always had that beard, even in season 1, I would protest strongly. That's not change, that's a retcon. I feel the same about the makeup.

They weren't targeting new audiences with that makeup, they weren't targeting anyone with it.

Ok...??? Non sequitur is a non sequitur.

I don't think anyone said "Klingons only look like Discovery Klingons." Just that they are a part of the change that Trek has done every time they had the money to do so.

There are basically only four types of live-action Klingon looks: the TOS ones with the unfortunately darkened skin, the Christopher Lloyd/Michael Dorn ones with foreheads as distinct as a fingerprint, the Kelvin redesign, and the Discovery redesign (which was later re-redesigned a bit). Ideally there would be one look, but at least the makeup upgrade was acknowledged in DS9 (a very good thing) and explained in Enterprise (a... less well-regarded thing). Picard did a similar thing with the Romulan makeup, acknowledging the difference and turning it into new lore (a very good thing).

In conclusion: Discovery's new Klingons were a terrible idea that alienated existing fans for very little benefit and they haven't done anything to retroactively justify them, but the rest of Star Trek has moved past them so
