Spoilers The Starfleet Museum

What ships will we see in the Starfleet Museum?

I wonder what the in universe explanation could be for New Jersey not being refitted into the movie Constitution since we see the Enterprise A in this same episode. Maybe, one of the last Constitution class ships produced and Starfleet decided to decommission and place in the museum to showcase the design? Maybe it’s more noteworthy as an example than for anything the ship did.

once they reintroduce the Klingons in a story. Will they keep the Discovery look from season 2 that kinda tried to merge the changes of season 1 with the movie era/TNG look. Or will they completely abandon the changes Discovery attempted, and revert to the Klingons looking like Worf?
SNW S2 Filming leaks
There was a picture taken of an extra in what looked like Klingon makeup, It’s just a forehead prosthetic no nose no teeth. Bit since he was an extra, it’s possible that’s why his makeup was just the forehead

Maybe just the last surviving one? When it was time for refits, they kept one back as a legacy piece? Like you say, nothing special about it beyond it being the last of its kind.

They used the TOS Connie design in PIC season 2 as well, but it’s very hard to see. The Constellation from TOS is one of the ship displays at Starfleet academy in episode 1.

Also it’s shown up in Prodigy and Lower Decks.

So yeah. It just seems to be up to each individual show as to what design they use.

I have liked to think or awhile the TOS connies went through a very specific design phase. Starfleet may have toyed with some external coating, different design philosophy. It didn't pan out, and that particular iteration were outliers.

as an example look at the "Regular" version of NASA's X-15 spaceplane vs the times it had full ablative coating for some of its faster runs.

It's just odd to me that we have two concurrent streams of design which are visually at odds with each other. I mean, there would have been fucking HELL to pay from fandom if Worf was made up as a DSC Klingon, I get that, but SNW would feel equally odd if it reverted to the Klingon's we used to know...

I say this as someone who enjoys DSC/SNW and I know the official party line is that they take place within the Prime timeline, but when all are done and dusted it wouldn't surprise me if ten years hence they were regarded generally within fandom and without as taking place within a different continuity...

What a mess, but I suppose that's part of the joy of being a fan.

I agree it is a mess. There was no good reason why they had to make STD completely different in evertlything from ship design to costumes. It does not fit at all into the prime continuity no matter how hard we try and fit it. It's like fitting a square peg into a round hole. SNW does a better job but even that could have been tweaked a bit more but since they mentioned STD right in the first ep it us what it is. I suspect they will at some point make both those series a alternate universes especially if they decide to remake TOS. But again it would have been so easy to make STD look and feel closer to TOS.

I think of how the Space Shuttle Enterprise never went to space, but is still preserved in a museum as well. Maybe it was built way after the fact, as a museum in and of itself? That would explain the high registry.

I stopped there. Call it DSC, as it's actually called, rather than going for the cheap shot. Then I might actually be interested in engaging with you.

Back to ships..

Why woud the bounty still have a cloak?
Is it an old faithful .. Cloaks on the hour ever hour. ?
I'm wondering how a hundred year old cloak is fooling anybody.

So about the USS New Jersey we saw in this week's episode:

This is obviously the TOS version of the Connie (as opposed to the Disco/SNW version). Because of this, does this mean that the Connie we see in SNW will eventually be refitted to look like this?
I don't need them to "fix" the SNW Enterprise. Seeing a TOS Connie in the museum was just plain nice. True, the SNW ENT could have had straight pylons, a smaller impulse deck and no big row of lights on the saucer, thus making it more similar to the TOS ENT. Still a beauty.

DSC makes no sense. STD stands for Star Trek Discovery. It's not my fault the producers picked that title.

It heavily implies it, but I suppose we're at the mercy of whoever's running SNW when the curtains close (or whoever ends up running a hypothetical TOS remake that follows on from it).

Yeah, if SNW just ends, then the ship gets refit into something very close to TOS. But if they make a show after that runs concurrently with TOS, then it gets complicated, since a finale cameo is very different animal from the ship we see every week.

As an aside, from ENT, to TOSR, to now, they just can't get the glowing tips of the nacelles to look right in CGI.

Not surprised, its notoriously difficult to replicate the chaotic swirl from random broken mirror bits, Christmas lights and spinning vanes. Some of our fan art posters here have pretty much cracked it, but they have as much time to throw at the problem as they want. The show doesn't have the luxury of unlimited time for a 3 second shot.

So, here is my personal totally not canon idea for the NX-01.

After ten years of service in Earth Starfleet, it got recalled and retired coinciding with the founding of the Federation.
However, it got then refitted with the secondary engineering hull section and anew Warp 7 engine and re-integrated in the newly founded Federation Starfleet as the NCC-01, no longer an NX class starship, but Enterprise Class.

This way it makes sense that it was retired after only 10 years without contradicting it‘s appearance here as the refit in the museum.

As the first of her class she could conveniently still retain the NX-01 if they wanted, but regardless the Dauntless from Voyager tells us what the first ship in the Federation Starfleet was named.

Maybe like the Luna class titan, it had a hard life, and not worth refiting, but could be rebuilt as a museum.
