Spoilers Starship Design in Star Trek: Picard

You can't really look at the ship design anymore to identify the time a vessel was built.

Can't say I agree with this in the slightest. I mean, with the exception of the Titan having a Constitution Class saucer, everything else is different. And even that saucer is heavily modified with cut outs, very different upper saucer, umpteen impulse engines, phaser arrays, etc.

To my eyes, they've done a pretty good job separating the various design eras.

From the NX-01 and her various contemporaries.

The early Disco ships.

The Kelvin and similar ships.

SNW Enterprise and Farragut / TOS Era

Refit Enterprise and late 23rd century

Galaxy Glass and all it's many contemporaries.

Sovereign class / Dominion war

Late 24th / Early 25th Cenutry

32nd Cenutry

Not in the military it’s not. Everyone must look the same. :)
Um, no.

The US Military has roughly 6 to 9 different uniforms within each branch, depending on the circumstances and mission profile and assigned uniform of the day by the CO. The uniformity is there in rank, and specialization and ribbons as insignia. Which is similar to what Trek is doing right now.

Well that’s also confusing. They should fix that as well.

Actually one problem with the new shows imho is that there are no apparent differences anymore between the new 23rd/24th/25th century starfleet vessels.

That’s what happens when you make prequels and decide to put your own spin on things while ignoring what came before.

That, or hiring a designer whose design attributes all look the same regardless of what time period they’re supposed to be from because they can’t think outside the box.

None of his Discovery designs look like anything like his 24th century Fed designs. They're completely visually distinct.

U.S.S Titan NCC-80102-A Constitution III-class starship
What are your thoughts? How many Variants of the Constuion class are they trying to make?
The season's hero ship could merit a thread of its own, but this one didn't have a lot of meat on its bones, so I've merged it into the Starship Design thread.

The only exception for this is now the 32rd century.

The design of the Intrepid was off, the rear facing communications/sensor dish was bizzare and they needed to explain with technobabble what advantages it has.
