But it has Riker, and Worf, and Crusher. Automatically better...

...don't ask why because no one has an answer.

We never saw them going to a Starbase after taking a few shots though - seems entirely reasonable that they would use automated repair droids for minor repairs/holding the ship together stuff until they could get to a Starbase for things like missing a chunk of saucer section after a fight with the Borg

Fair point - I was thinking in the TV series

Subjectively I would consider that more than a few shots but without rewatching to remind myself I'll defer to your memory of it being better than mine

It's okay to have the robots on Picard since this is nearly 40 years since the Next Generation. I had a big problem with them having them on Discovery.

I can't remember off the top of my head if we see them in SNW but, assuming we don't, you could argue they were decommissioned across the fleet following the Control takeover attempt which helps reconcile the holograms/AI stuff being there but not in TOS

Can see where the clash comes from though and it does just come down to where your personal lines are drawn but definitely can appreciate why you didn't like them being in Disco

That could be a good explanation. I'm also hoping that as we get closer to Kirk's time the Enterprise will look a little bit more like his Enterprise.

If they can find a way to do it that isn't "forced" then I think it would be pretty cool - maybe Discoprise takes a beating and so when repairing and rebuilding the space frame they choose to cut back on a few bits (size reduces) and the stylistic stuff could be new brand warp engines and bussard collectors which are smaller.

Would want a bit of a 21c twist (mostly more detailed hull etc) but could work

One would imagine a certain level of self-sufficiency. Wrath of Khan is a poor example as it was specifically a training cruise, meant for cadets to learn how to operate the ship themselves.

The other thing to remember is Khan shot the Enterprise in the most vulnerable areas that maximized damage. Even starting repairs on your own, given the amount of damage she took would require them to go to a starbase, especially in that era.

Same with the Enterprise-D after the Borg carved out an entire section on multiple decks of the saucer. You can't just duct tape your way in repairing that damage.

We know there was a certain amount of automation on the ship - can't imagine there being a load of cooks in the back pinging out meals for the food dispensers for example.

Goes to reason there will be some too - fair point that the ship may have been stripped back in TWOK for that purpose but we can't fully call it either way and I wouldn't have issue in terms of believability and fitting in with Disco with either your answer or Pubert's (or a mix) being the situation

You can however hold it together with Amazon boxes and chewing gum as we once had to at uni to cover a window - that was air tight so it will surely work in space...

I doubt Amazon would exist in 2365...

    Better overall pacing.

Clear goals and character arcs every episode.

No blubbering or sobbing during dramatic moments. (Bryan Cranston has a great explanation here of why that's important in drama.)

Much more natural and effective use of profanity, compared with PIC season 1.

And, yeah, okay familiar characters we know and like plus cool starship designs. Dismiss it if you want, but it matters.

A mix is what I would expect. Automation in a starship just makes sense even if not presented on screen.
I'll be blunt and say does that make it more Star Trek or just more watchable to you?

And, yes I'll dismiss familiar characters because I don't care about them.

Profanity in PIC Season 1 had two instances?

And I'll never understand the reticence against sobbing.

If you are telling me that the couriers and Emerald Chain in Disco aren't an extension of Amazon and its employment practices then you have lost all credibility mate - bet Ossyrra is even nice enough to let staff take a piss mid shift

Sheer fucking hubris I believe was used twice. Maybe the word hubris. But that smacks of poor writing when the word hubris is used by two different characters. I believe the same writer wrote both eps that used that word. Both very poor eps

Have to check the two instances but if it is used as a call back/reference to the earlier encounter then no issue with it but if it is just repeated with no connection then yeah, it is a bit lazy

I was referring to the Amazon boxes joke, but I guess typing fails to bring the humor across.
