I've not looked at the startrek subreddit for some time due to the mods being overly heavy-handed with banning anyone and everyone who dared to even slightly criticize Discovery, Picard, SNW, etc. Just had a look today and that subreddit is now so terribly boring and bland. This is what happens when you try and create a safe space that censors criticism - there's no room for proper discussion. I point this out as it's a real shame to see a once worthwhile and entertaining subreddit devolve in this way. Mods: if criticism if other Star Trek forums, etc isn't allowed here feel free to remove this post.
I still enjoy it. If I want Trek discussion I come here. Reddit is not something I take seriously. ETA: though I am having some enjoyable discussions on the site now, especially around O'Brien and some other minutia. Also, really enjoy the Star Trek Uniform subreddit. There's gold there but you have to be willing to dig for it and not assume that you'll just find it. Be the discussion you want to be!
I know a poster that got banned because they liked all of the Trek shows, except Discovery. Another poster was accused of misgendering Adira and being asked to apologize, and the poster didn’t understand how they were supposed to apologize to a fictional character. So the mod banned the poster instead of answering the question. Another poster didn’t like that Rios smoked and thought that smoking wasn’t cool and got banned for that. Another poster had issues with the PIC S2 arc and was told they weren’t providing examples and they shouldn't participate if they weren't going to. From my experience, I know from other subreddits that the mods think some posters are not arguing or commenting in good faith and will delete the post altogether. And, TBF, Reddit is a known LGBTQ+ safespace, to the point they banned the word “groomer “being used on the site last summer. Considering how Discovery has been received ever since it came onto the air and it has the largest LGBTQ+ representation in history, its not surprising how some mods act on Reddit in regards to that show. That all being said, the site does go overboard in pushing hiveminds and echo chambers to the point that actual discussion is impossible. And for some subreddits, its on purpose to cultivate a certain userbase for those subreddits. And in addition, some mods do seem to abuse their power over there, and won’t even explain what rules are broken to justify deleting the post or banning the user. And users abuse the downvote button and the Reddit Cares message. So the issues you faced are not exclusively to the Star Trek subreddit, though the Star Trek subreddit should be one of the more openminded subreddits on the entire site. It seems to have gone downhill in only a couple of years. In any case, Reddit’s behind me. I quit the site for good not that long ago and I’m not looking back.
Surely that's not accurate? There was a show called The L Word, which I didn't watch but AFAIK was completely about LGBTQ+ characters' lives. Edit. Just looked up a list of characters from the show. It absolutely smokes Discovery.
I have yet to find an open-minded Trek site, all across the board. There are always struggles and Star Trek, while not unique, does not have more open-minded people either as part of it's fan base either..

I'm confused as to what you're saying. You said Disco had the largest LGBTQ+ representation in history, and I dispute that claim.
Sadly I have yet to find another online forum which has all of reddit's positives yet little, if any, of its negatives. Suggestions are welcome. :-)
Here is a good site, still fairly active. I've enjoyed the Daystrom Institute Technical Library's pages but couldn't begin to tell how active they are any more.
…within Star Trek. Unless that's in dispute too. Message boards are a better format for discussion. But they are all shutting down (ex. The Omega Sector) But like MSN/Skype, its been replaced by social media and Discord. If I had known about The Omega Sector earlier, I would have gone there for discussion.
