A pretty clear possible use of the Dauntless - probably with Tysess in command in that case - is to bring Gwyn to Solum and support/observe her actions there. Tysess and his crew having a history with Ascencia could be a potential point there.

The Dauntless would be a natural choice because of its quantum slipstream drive + experienced crew. Reaching Solum isn't going to be easy and avoiding first contact while still getting Gwyn were she needs to be (which implies the need for observation of the planet before she is send there, along with possible coaching) looks like it would require Starfleet's best efforts.

Given that S2 won't be spending too much time on Gwyn's efforts to unify Solum (or at least, we were told this), I suspect that the Dauntless could be used to ferry her to Solum and wait nearby (doing other things) to see if her efforts are successful.

I suspect the Voy-A will also have a form of advanced FTL propulsion technology that might rival QS... if not Quantum Slipstream itself... possibly even the Proto drive technology?

    No idea.
It was suggested that A ship might be sent through the wormhole to go rescue Chakotay and his crew... meaning that no other vessels besides VOY-A will go through the wormhole (other ships might remain in the present side of the wormhole to monitor it and possibly extend support to VOY-A should it become necessary).

We were told S2 won't be spending too much time on Gwyn/Solum? When/where? AFAIK, the only thing we were told is that Keven Hageman confirmed (in a Youtube interview) we will follow Gwyn during S2, but no word on how much or how little time we would spend with her. Such details on S2 have not been released, I think. The only other thing we know is a hint from Jameela Jalil that Gwyn and Ascencia will develop a more complicated relationship (as opposed to the very clear hostility there is now).

It would be a shame if a vessel named after Voyager did not have one of the "ludicrous speed" drives, given its predecessor was among the fastest ships of its time in Starfleet and it was known for its ultra-long voyage.

Has that been suggested? There are hints the Voyager-A will be Janeway's ship or flagship (in the meaning of the vessel that has an admiral on board who is in command of a specific mission, or of a group of vessels like a task force or fleet) for S2 and that Dal and co will likely be on it. However, Dal's actor has stated they will be training along other Starfleet trainees, so we are likely looking at either a large vessel or a ship with a dedicated training mission, or both.

Moreover, Starfleet has classified the temporal rift under the temporal prime directive (see ) with it being implied that this may mean Janeway has no permission to go rescue Chakotay, at the time the log was recorded.

So, it seems more likely to me that the Voyager-A, if it is indeed quite full with various Starfleet trainees, will not be risked for this mission (which may even be undertaken clandestinly by Janeway, in the best Kirk-tradition) and they may use a shuttle/runabout/Delta Flyer/Defiant-class/Protostar-class instead. If Janeway goes in without or against orders, she will need volunteers who are loyal to her, and who better than her young protégés (and maybe a few others she trusts)? Especially since the show is supposed to be about them, rather than about those who already are proven within Starfleet.

It's possible the Voyager-A will go in, but in light of those considerations, I think it is more likely this vessel and its crew will not be risked. Especially since Janeway may have more than one vessel at her disposal (admirals usually do, the situation in S1B notwithstanding), and even if they go in small on a shuttle they could potentially make it out and back with the original Protostar prototype (if that is still on Solum, that is to say, if they arrive in the future at a point where Chakotay hadn't sent it back yet).

    Spoiler for Star Trek: Picard:

In the year PIC season 3 takes place (could be anywhere from 2401 to 2411), there exists a Voyager-B, and it’s the same STO Pathfinder class as what was shown in the OP’s opening post YouTube video. So that would mean that the Voyager-A that will be seen in PRO (taking place in 2384) will only be in service for at least 17 to 27 years. And that’s assuming that the Voyager-A is brand new as of 2384, and the Voyager-B is brand new as of 2401/2411.

IIRC this vessel wasn't mentioned during the episode and not shown clearly onscreen (was it on a background monitor/LCARS display somewhere? I missed it), which leaves sufficient leeway for another show to ignore this if the showrunner of said show has other plans. There have been graver disruptions of canon.

If we're talking about the voyager-B then it was seen in the very first episode of PiC season 3 during Raffi's search for the "Red Lady" its seen on the left hand side during her search.

Unless they actually show the ship somewhere in the next 6 episodes like they plan on doing with the Enterprise-F, which was also not mentioned during the episode and not shown clearly onscreen.

Yes, but that ship is supposed to be undergoing a decommissioning ceremony, isn't it? Which presumably isn't the case for the other vessel, so it may have no reason to be there.

It seems to me that inter-show continuity isn't really high on TPTB's priorities list.

    That's not true at all.

    Picard Season 3
Prodigy is probably a reason why they went with Voyager-B in Picard and not Voyager-A

The Voyager-B is in service in 2401. The Voyager-A is in service in 2384. If we assume that the Voyager-A is a brand-new ship as of 2384, and the Voyager-B isn't a brand-new ship as of 2401, that would mean that the A would only have been in service for at most 17 years, but the time span is presumably much less than that. That seems far too short a time to me for the A to be in service. Of course, you can't have a B without an A, so that seems to be what will happen, despite its implausibility.

    To me too.
Unless the VOY-A gets destroyed at some point and B takes its place, or the A also made something similarly 'heroic' and made its name that got it decomissioned after about 17 odd years.

The ENT-E was seemingly in service for just 10 years and replaced by the Enterprise-F (unless what we know is wrong and the E is being decomissioned and F just entering service)... and the Titan suffered damage which prompted SF to NOT reconstruct/repair her but instead turn her into a Neo Constitution we saw as Titan-A.

Weird choices. Unless a starship is completely decimated, there's no real reason to decomission it so quickly.
The Enterprise-E could have continued onward with upgrades and hull refreshes to keep it consistently 'fresh'. Unless it also did something 'heroic' and it ended up in the fleet museum but never seen it.

I would assume the real reason they're getting a new ship (the Voyager-A?) instead of keeping the Dauntless is that the writers want a smaller, less-powerful ship so that the characters can be in greater peril when the S2 plot takes off.

I doubt it, as Janeway was talking about "big plans". The original Voyager was pretty big already, at least as big as Dauntless I think. Characters will be in peril, but I expect that Dal and co's peril will mainly come from them making mistakes during their training, while Gwyn won't be in a ship (for much of the time, anyway) and danger can come to her in whatever shape the producers want.

Moreover, it won't necessarily be the ship with the cadets and everything that will be used to go seek Chakotay, which is probably going to be the culmination of season 2A, or at least the most dangerous point for the crew. I wouldn't be surprised if it's Janeway and Dal and co only, who go on that mission, which could be done in a much smaller vessel.
