NuWho it's Capaldi. He gets even better every time I watch. (Obviously I have a sweet spot for Smith. And who doesn't love Tennant?)

I feel I should throw in a controversial Star Trek opinion, kind of like an offering.

BTW, I read something about the demise of Disco and how it was inevitable since we all know Spock didn't have a sister. Funny, I don't recall ever hearing about Scotty's sister. And there we have Peter Preston (engineer's mate, SIR!) bleeding all over the bridge and Kirk's uniform.

Controversial Opinion: I’d rather talk about Star Trek than Dr Who.

Nothing will ever convince me that the name of the Borg's debut episode – "Q Who" – wasn't a deliberate tip of the hat to Doctor Who for essentially stealing the Cybermen.

Eccleston used to be "my" Doctor, but these days I think it might be Matt Smith.

I don't watch Doctor Who anymore, but when I did, I too thought Eccleston was my Doctor. Now it might be like you and Matt Smith, mainly because I thought the long term planning of the River Song arc was well done.

I happened to catch VGR's "WORST CASE SCENARIO" a couple hours ago on Pluto TV, and one scene struck me a different way now than any other time I have watched it. (And I love this really fun episode.)

When Tuvok and Tom are arguing in the Mess Hall about keeping characters' action within their established traits vs. making it up as you go along made me wonder if Kenneth Biller, the writer of this episode, was secretly telling the audience what a conversation between the writers and UPN was like... Tuvok representing the writers, with Tom representing the UPN executives.

Straight up Truth about Tom (*and* I see what you did there!). My whole life would be different if I hadn't started watching his episodes back in PA before I moved to AZ and then found Doctor Who fans.

My controversial opinion is that I enjoy Discovery. All of it. And that as much as I have a crush on Santiago Cabrera, I was satisfied with him staying in the past at the end of season 2 of Picard.

My favourite Trek doctor is (TOS) McCoy, followed by Crusher and the EMH.

As to the point of the thread, most of my controversial opinions are a bit ancient. They can be found in previous iterations of this thread, here and here. I'll have to develop some new ones.

Sort of true--and i've found the overrating usually comes from people who never watched the original DW series, so they were comparing him to his predecessor's performance, seen (by some) as nasty and overbearing.

Nope, there's Three for Three. Pertwee and his era are an absolute highpoint of Classic Who and so often overlooked.

Back to Dr Who for just one moment, I also agree David Tennant was very overrated in the role. He’s a good leading man but played the character far too “human” for he. He didn’t capture the alienness at all. Matt Smith and Peter Capaldi were far better. Tom Baker is still my favourite though; talk about an actor who was totally BORN to play a role.

Anyway, Star Trek eh?

Controversial: I think that Seasons 1-2 of TNG are it's best.

I agree. I wouldn’t say they’re the best quality wise but I find them far more enjoyable to rewatch. It could partly be nostalgia; they were shown here at a time loved life. I associate them with happy times; not so much the later seasons.
But I do think things got duller as the show went on though. The music is the perfect barometer of that. The writers and actors maybe got a bit too comfortable, and the series peaked fairly early with Best of Both Worlds. There were certainly many great episodes afterward but it was never quite as exciting or fresh afterward. It never recaptured the edge of the first couple of seasons.
