Spoilers Lower Decks General Discussion Thread

On the other hand, I like having something that helps me look forward to August, which has a habit of being a crappy and stressful month for me.

Lower Decks have made August bareable the last few years, even though the beginning of August is the Star Trek convention. I've always hated August because it's the Dog Days of Summer, Baseball tends to be a little on the slow side, and Football is a month away. At least looking forward to Lower Decks is something to get excited about. I'm looking forward to the new season, and maybe we are getting news/trailers soon.

Well that’s lame. Hopefully there will be a European Blu-ray release.

I fear that Paramount/CBS could think that DVD would be "enough" for the non-english speaking countries. As far as I know no former MOD release from Paramount/CBS has been published in Europe.

A shimmer of hope: In the last couple of years not every Star Trek home media release in Europe was identical with the US release. For some seasons they produced discs especially for the european market with the additional audio tracks that were not on the US discs (PIC S1, LDS S1, DSC S3, maybe SNW S1). So hopefully Star Trek is a big enough brand to warrant again a seperate Blu-ray release of Lower Decks Season 3 in Europe independet from whatever release scheme Paramount/CBS does in North America.

Yeah, that really sucks. On the other hand, here in Nordics, LD season 2 and PIC season 2 were only released on Blu-Ray, and not on DVD. Then again, it looks like we are not getting the SNW Season 1 at all on physical media.

UK/Europe releases are often separate, which is why I'm keeping my fingers crossed. Sometimes it works in our favour, like the TMP Complete Adventure boxset, so maybe we'll get lucky.

The same in the german speaking countries. DVD for season 2 was originally announced but was never released. That was very unusual for Paramount/CBS.

Maybe too soon to worry. It is not officially announced for Germany yet but at least one online shop already lists a german release with the date May, 25. DVD and Blu-ray but no UHD. So the rest of Europe outside UK might get SNW on discs just about two months later.

EDIT: Speak of the devil ... A media news page just announced a german UHD release for SNW season 1 for May, 25. (There are no details about audio tracks and subtitles availlable yet.)

Ahh, now that makes sense. My LD season 1 is from the US, and season 2 is from the UK. Wondered why the US one was so linguistically limited when pretty much every Paramount release has the "choose your language" at start up.

Europe has a much healthier physical media market than North America. I'm actually going to hold off a bit on buying the US version of season 3 just in case the UK puts one out. Likely to have much better menus, and be cheaper as well.

It sucks that it’s a MOD release because that means sales weren’t that great. But at least it’s coming out on blu-ray. They could’ve made it a dvd only release.

with the cancellation of disco i wonder if the next season will be LD last while i know animation is cheaper than live it doesn't have the same ''pull'' than live stuff does and with the streaming compression exec's might not see value in continuing further

~ Oh, I hope that's not the case. I'm practically living for LDS at the moment (can't wait for S4!) - well, that and Ghosts (BBC).

I think Mike said they were writing Season 5 in an interview, but that doesn't actually mean they were renewed.
~ Fingers crossed!

Is it cheaper to do animation shows over Live Action? I'm hoping because Lower Decks is animated that it might stick around through at least Season 5. If not, then it had a good run and I really enjoyed it.

At least five seasons of LD would be great, but if they keep the quality up I'm happy to follow these characters for years! (although eventually they'd need to stop being lower deckers so if the show does have to end soon hopefully it will have a soft landing that shows them all going on to bigger and better things/other ships rather than it just ending)

Lower Decks doesn't necessary need to mean Junior officers on the totem pole, it could also refer to ships that are given menial tasks. Captain Freeman could be consider a "lower decker" because she's given Second Contact missions and various low key assigments.
