What are your controversial Star Trek opinions?

This. Kirstie was good. Robin was much better.

I disagree that one was better than the other. Different situations and the characters were written different. Saavik in WoK was written as half-Romulan. Saavik in TSFS was written as full Vulcan.

Alley clearly plays Saavik with some emotions. Curtis played her as a run of the mill, emotionless Vulcan.

Alley also plays her more in-experienced where as Curtis plays her a a seasoned pro.

Robin Curtis was a much better Saavik than Kirstie Alley, and it's a crying shame she wasn't in Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan.
That's not controversial. That's insane.

And looked and behaved more Vulcan-like.
That's a bug, not a feature.

It's really not possible to compare the two performances because they don't really play the same character on screen or on the page. TWOK Saavik has more in common with Valeris than TWOK and TSFS Saaviks do.

She’s hilarious. And completely unfiltered.
More or less than Sirtis?

and about a brief sexual affair she had with the last actor to play Spock in his progression on the Genesis planet.
That MIGHT be answering my previous question.

I only met her the month that TNG premiered and less than a year after The Voyage Home. So she may have been more filtered than later. (OTOH, she did spend most of her free time that I saw her with Doohan in the casino.)

Spoilers for PIC season 3

I find it very refreshing how Vadic is obviously evil and doesn't mind showing it. I like knowing exactly who is good and who is bad. I realize how old fashioned this is, and what's more, I.DON'T.FUCKING.CARE.

I hope they don't give Vadic some tragic backstory that tries to justify what she does (explanation is justification, after all) - some people are just :censored:ing NUTS, for no particular reason.
Behavior doesn't arise from nothing - as Trek (and real life) demonstrated on multiple occasions.
Vadic is probably a culmination of all the experiences she went through in her life to get her to this stage... probably has no regrets and wouldn't change anything.
There's always a reason for how people behave.

A 'villain' who has no qualms about who they are and wouldn't change themselves because they like who they are might be a refreshing take though.

Oh, and I repeat what I earlier said about Shaw. He's the greatest. I hope he makes it through to the end of the season. And I'd totally watch Star Trek: Shaw. :techman:

He's good looking... but captaincy-wise, still a bit of an unknown for me to know for sure.
He seemed a bit... cowardly though, and was ready to hand over Jack Crusher right after saying SF doesn't negotiate with bounty hunters just because he was effectively outgunned.
Its 'Nemesis' all over again... only Picard didn't have qualms about going up against the Scimitar when it was needed (even if he was disadvantaged).

My issue is... why the heck SF continues to under-equip their exploratory ships in terms of tactical systems?

For the love of all that is holy, will people please stop posting spoilers for Picard?

There is an entire forum dedicated to the show where people can talk openly about whatever they want.

^ You said, and I quote, "The rule is six months after airdate before anything can be posted without spoiler tags."

Implying that spoilers WITH tags are allowed.

Have you changed your mind?

No, I did not change my mind.

I’m the one who added spoiler tags to an open spoiler in someone else’s post, which had nothing to do with you.

Oh. Okay then.

In that case, here's another controversial opinion:

Jack Crusher Jr. is an insufferable twit who SHOULD have been handed over to Vadic.

TV show needing to create drama, tension and danger.

Curtis is one of the more underrated actresses in Trek. I liked her Saavik portrayal, and I'm actually glad she wasn't back to betray Spock and Starfleet in Star Trek VI. It would have been have been a complete 180, considering she was kind of the surrogate mother to him in Search for Spock.

If you ever get the chance to see Robin Curtis at a convention, do it.

She’s hilarious. And completely unfiltered.

When we met her she talked about getting stoned with Rene Auberjonois (“Who on Star Trek didn’t get high with Rene?”), and about a brief sexual affair she had with the last actor to play Spock in his progression on the Genesis planet.

I talked to her when I was in Vegas. She was great. She's in Real Estate now, which is cool.
