As far as I'm concerned, killing a child so a civilization can have technology and convenience is a civilization that deserves neither.

I feel as you do. And were I in a position to stop it, I would do so. The sole concession is that I would ensure that the city was evacuated before I rescued the latest First Servant, gave them what care and comfort I could before they passed, then pulled my phaser and blew that -ing nightmare machine back to the hell that spawned it.

Why walk away from Omelas when you can simply bulldoze it?

True, but compare it to how things were for kids 100 years ago. As I often remind the kids on my bus, when they complain about having to go to school... try working 11-hour days at a factory instead.

That's why I think that the game should have let you choose an ending.

I agree, but TLOU isn't an RPG, it's an action game with cinematic cutscenes. Player agency/branching and reactive storylines aren't really a feature of the latter.

Yeah, but it still sucks. Nothing sucks the heroism out of an in-game action than being forced to do it.

Maybe Controversial: The Enterprise D bridge is a Star Trek cul de sac that will not ever be visited again other than specifically as the Enterprise D bridge.

Look at how many umpteen variations on the TOS / TMP / Defiant / Voyager design language we've gotten over the years. And that's just canon on screen. Look at the proliferation of fan designs!

The TNG bridge is totally unique and for all the love that TNG gets (I know many consider TOS to be the trial run that paved the way for the Real Star Trek that is TNG) no one so much bats an eyelash at that design. Which I confess makes me a little sad. It was one of the truly successful departures that TNG was able to make from TOS and the movies. The Ent-E bridge is cool and all but it shows none of the Out of the Box thinking that they had in 1987.

And that's coming from a staunch TOS / TMP guy.

I'm not sure that's controversial. It definitely said "this ain't the original show; it's The Future!" The chairs even looked comfortable!

After that, I thought DS9, due to being Cardassian built, also was out of the box.

There are many great things about the Enterprise-D, but at the same time it feels a little too business class to me. I actually prefer the smaller scale, less lavish designs of TOS and ENT. The SNW Enterprise is too spacious for my liking.

Just Beyond? The JJ -verse had always had more costume changes than The Motion Picture.

I'm not opposed to multiple uniforms or special uniforms, just that in the particular film, under those circumstances of them crashing on that planet and having little time to switch costumes and all their kit getting blown up I thought it better that there would have just been the normal uniform and then out of necessity some of them are forced to wear the Franklin uniforms. Chekov and Kirk wear some other uniform for some reason. No big deal really, and it makes sense those things exist in universe, I just didn't see the need for it. I do think uniforms and tech change way too much but that's par for the course. I personally love when ships and uniforms are around for a while but each show wants it's visual identity.

I think I like the discription of business class more than hotel lobby. That crew was out doing business most of the time and they did act all business like.

I wonder if just because of the technological advances we have today if the design of the NX-01 will actually become dated. I liked the ship and I liked how basic it was in terms of the first space exploratory vessel, but it seems like today's technology has already passed what we saw on Enterprise in 2001. I don't think people will be controlling ships with Joysticks.

Older technological interfaces may actually be easier for species with different physiology/mobility to operate, so adapted versions of them will probably persist.

Early Discovery had a crewperson literally wired into their console at the fingertips and wearing a big VR helmet. Such a shame it only ended up set dressing, and was dropped come season 3 because it's such a cool concept.

Well, so long as they were controlling the ship in awesome VR ways and not shopping in the metaverse

I think 'Star Trek' as a franchise took the wrong turn when it moved from an "adventure" series to an "action" series. I'll put that point somewhere mid-DS9/mid-VOY.

Since then there still had been good Star Trek - ENT seasons 3 & 4, as well as ST09 have been good action. But the rules of the Star Trek universe don't really lend themselves to constant action à la Star Wars or Stargate. It often feels very awkward and unnatural (see latest PIC)

But "SNW" (talking about live-action only here) ist the first time I have the feeling I'm watching an "adventure" series again, with some regular action sprinkled in again, instead of the other way 'round. That's why I love it to death, warts and all (and it has a lot of warts).

They are Art Asylum toys from the mid 00's. I want a TMP ship but I don't believe they ever made one. The made the A and they made a battle damaged TWOK ship. And those are all bloody expensive anyway.

That was one of the underrated cool things about Discovery. Say what you want about the Jump concept vs. Warp Drive, but the effect was really cool and the concept was very much sci fi like for the modern era.
