An okay episode but I’m disappointed that they revealed him to be Picard’s dad. That is such a tired trope. Hopefully there is more to it.
I still don’t care about Raffi. I just find her character to be too unStar Trek like. Like I’m watching someone from the 21st century. Plus she’s just not interesting.
I’m on the Star Trek cruise at the moment and the actor who plays Shaw is onboard. Very different to his character. The guy is a hoot. I’ll never think of a “black hole” the same again. :)

I wouldn't say Prodigy is about beating nasty bad guys. Not more than, say, TNG was, or TOS itself (and for that matter, Lower Decks also has bad guys, and yes they get beaten). All those series had bad guys that needed to be beaten, without being all about them.
PRO absolutely follows the formula. Individual episodes may be about other things, but the main tension driving S1 is The Diviner trying to destroy Starfleet and the heroic kids trying to stop him. S2 looks set up for something similar.

I don’t really understand the warp into the tractor beam. I don’t think it works like that. Plus I don’t think you can warp into a nebula.

Given M'Talas Prime is where her ex-Husband is also based, is it her homeworld? Was she born outside the Federation? Would explain a lot in terms of her seeming a bit less 'Federation' than our average Earth-raised Starfleet academy graduate.

Exciting.

I am also disappointed in learning Jack is Picard's son. I didn't realize I would be. If he was born when Crusher was away in S2 of TNG, when the hell did the two hook up? And how does it make sense with episodes like "Allegiance" and "Attached"? And if it's they hooked up between episodes and the real issue was emotional connection between them and not sex, how is that satisfying to the whining Genwunners who hate everything?

I'm thinking they're going with conception after NEM. If people in their mid 20s can play high school sophomores and early 30s university students...

I'm also thinking there's some kind of special medical thing going on with Jack, that could explain the interest from Vadic and the quick aging.

The leaked son character casting call thingy from a few years ago said the son was "in his early 20s". Going by this I'm guessing people are simply supposed to believe that he is just that, despite the actor looking a bit older.

If that's the case, they really should have set it in 2411. Handsome guy with a young air, but no way does he look 22. Shrug. That's easier to believe than they hooked up in "The Neutral Zone" and she had him raised by somebody else. Though maybe the recently unemployed Pulaski was all like, "I'm not doing anything now. Want me to raise him, Bev?"

Remember the new Kirk for SNW is in his 40's, playing a 34-year-old Kirk in his debut episode and then an even younger version in the forthcoming season.

Ed Speelers confirmed he is playing about 23/24 years old. So apparently conceived during last film or just after....

I know it's being more than a bit pedantic, but technically Admiral Picard's son
is Jack Crusher Jr.
If he is going by Crusher rather than Picard on his birth certificate.

Even if he is not related to Jack Crusher the old one at all?
If Beverly didn't put Picard's name as the father on the birth certificate and used her married name, then as I said, he would be seen as a Jr.
Jack Crusher Sr. died, there was no divorce involved.
But, as I also said, it is just a technicality, Beverly is a widow and apparently listed her son as a Crusher.

Who says she even put anybody's name on the birth certificate?

She was born on Earth according to her Bio in Episode 1.

Hello folks.
Just watched the episode and I have to say that Shaw is my favorite character so far. In comparison to him Seven, Picard, Ryker and Raffi seem very emotionally driven, kind of selfcentered, irresbonsible and at times incompetent. I hated that they made Shaw safe Picard and the gang to be a hero. But out of all the senior officers on the Titan, he is the one who represents a starfleet captain the most at the moment in my opinion. (if seven had just followed his orders...everything would be lright, because shaws insincts, not to trust Ryker and Picard, were totally right.)

I also liked Worf. He must have benn waiting fully prepared in his ninja suit just waiting for Raffi to screw up her attempt at outsmarting the Ferengi. I really hate beheadings and mercyless killing by the good guys in a star trek show. But when Worf does it, I can look the other way and let it pass.

That it looked like the Titan kinda knocked the other ship away was a little bit goofy. (I dont like the Defiant smashing through this one Jem'Hadar ship in DS9 either) But overall the visuals from the space scenes to the make up were somewhere in between ok and pretty good.

The sound design of the evil ship really annoys me. If you uncreatively go for the honking/horn sound we get to hear in every effing trailer...at least do it right. I have to say that Elite Dangeous did it like a thousand times better.

Complaints aside, I gave this Episode a 7/10 because flaws of the characters aside....I was entertained. (and not in a sarcastic way)
