WTF moments in Star Trek

True... but it shows that Joran does have that scary insight into a killer's mind. He can see from the way the man carries himself that "this man is not right, and he's dangerous".
As true as that is, it's still one of those narrative conveniences that makes me chuckle. The sort of thing that screams "episode is ending" that forces everything to line up just right.

Except that one insight made absolutely no sense. It’s like saying “The killer had a glass of wine. The killer is a somalier!”

The relationship between "emotionally off-center" and "killer" is not exactly the same as "has a glass of wine" and "sommalier".

While I love the episode (truly, I think it's an underrated gem)...it is a bit of a WTF that Picard's answer to Nagilum's "experiments in death" is to destroy the entire ship in "Where Silence Has Lease."

I mean, I suppose if 1/2 the crew is potentially going to die as horribly or worse than the poor red shirt on the bridge did, it's at least a quicker death. But man....that's a tough pill to swallow. I guess it's a little like Lorca blowing up the Buran to avoid the crew being brought to Kronos as war prisoners.

In the current Star Trek comic, something weird happens and Tom Paris takes a selfie. With a cell phone.

...but then, I remembered: it's Tom Paris. It would be perfectly in-character for him to have and use such an ancient twenty-first-century device. Nothing else was said about it, I don't know if that was the idea or if they got it right by accident.

I think an interesting WTF moment was Picard inferring that the Ferengi would eat their enemies in "Encounter at Farpoint" and then, a mere 3-4 episodes later, we got these guys:

DaiMons Tarr and Bok were creditably threatening, but the Ferengi landing party in “The Last Outpost” was a disaster. It’s sort of funny how it undid Tarr’s effort in the same episode.

Remember the last exchange...
WESLEY: "He sure held that bluff till the last second, didn't he, sir?"
RIKER: "Was he bluffing?"
We never know for sure.

For that, I'll take the personal photon torpedo launcher, seen at 1:51.

I can’t imagine a more imprecise weapon.

Worf's space bazooka that shoots cotton candy bolts is nothing to shake a stick at either, gentlebeings.

I never really looked at that thing closely before. The design doesn’t seem like Federation technology, or Klingon for that matter. Maybe something he picked up along the way on DS9?
