Who do you think will die from the main cast for S3 of Picard??

It’s kinda funny to me how people have shifted from “Picard will die” to “nah not Picard”. (Is this because people think in TNG nostalgia terms again now because the crew is back? You can’t kill the captain? Because sorry, but you totally can nowadays. This ain’t TNG anymore.) Because from what we know so far they seem to be setting up exactly that. Maybe with a twist tho, I’ll grant them that.

Jean-Luc talks about not needing a legacy - well, it seems he now has one. Killing off his son makes very little sense since they’ve said repeatedly that this season is about setting up the next next generation. And RMB has said that Laris doesn’t appear again in season 3. Doesn’t sound like as if there’s going to be a reunion there, at least not on screen. This makes it kinda likely that Jean-Luc is going to sacrifice himself for his son. For a legacy he at first claimed he didn’t need. Character arc right there. Remember, they have all said there is a maaaaaassive threat to the Federation this time (sigh) and the final two episodes are basically like a movie on its own. And from what we know so far the aliens seem to be after Jean-Luc’s son. So, what better way of ending things than throwing himself in front of his son when Vadic finally gets the chance to grab him. Or throwing himself and Vadic into the Trek equivalent of a volcano in order to prevent her from harming his son. Whatever it takes - we ARE living in Trope City in season 3.

I mean let’s be realistic here. Sir Patrick is 82 years old. He said in an interview the other day that he now wants to return to the stage. It sounded very much like as if he sees this as the final part of his career and he wants to end it where it began - on the stage. And he has said there are no plans in place for anything beyond season 3. The planning phase they’d need at this point. Hiring writers. Shooting schedule. Casting. Etc etc. He would be what, 85 when they finally start shooting, maybe? His TNG co-stars had to help him over the line at the end of season 3 already (as LeVar Burton stated). He can’t do this anymore. Not as a series lead. Add to that the whole theme of “this Picard story has ended” that everybody is saying. I SINCERELY doubt they’ll make a fourth season. (Another show with regular TNG guest stars I can see tho, absolutely.) Add to all this Matalas’ remarks about some of the TNG cast projecting on Spock coming back from the dead. When he said that, only Frakes, McFadden and Sir Patrick had loudly expressed the desire to return, with Sir Patrick being the loudest of the bunch.

However. There is apparently a post credits scene. RMB has also said there’s a small time jump at the end of the season. So, who knows. Jean-Luc might sacrifice himself but they could always have added a post credits scene that indicates that he isn’t as dead as everyone thinks he is. Just to keep the door open for a possible return in whatever capacity. But honestly, it’s extremely unlikely that this capacity would be as a series lead. I just can’t see this happening. And the guest star thing? I can see him doing that but at the same time they’d have to approach him with a REALLY damn good plot reason, he won’t do it just so that they can check a “brought Picard back” box. What I’m saying is that a death-but-not-quite-death like that would be exactly what Sir Patrick likes - it would be a dramatic character arc ending for Jean-Luc AND it would leave a return up entirely to Sir Patrick and whether he thinks it’s justified or needed.

I love Sir Patrick to bits but I also know that he has a habit of forgetting his age (he always says he remembers his 40th birthday vividly and thinks it was just yesterday, bless him) AND of being so enthusiastic about things he enjoyed doing that he’ll yell all over the place how he wants to do it again but then ends up not doing so for various (usually practical) reasons. Wouldn’t be the first time. I’m not saying he won’t return, I’m saying that “I would love to do more Star Trek” and then actually DOING it are two entirely different things. Especially when you’re his age and when you already have other plans in place for the next chapter of your career and when the show seems to have set up a legacy character arc that gives a way of continuing with a younger actor.

Well he died in the first season. Data died a 2nd time I the first season. Do we really need a repeat of that? I dint want any of the main TNG cast to buy the farm yet. Some still look healthy enough to continue with a spin off series. Raffi is a good choice since she is trying to buy her way back into starfleet by finding the terrorists on her own. So far she's been pretty slow and they already got their first target. The only way I see fir redeeming herself is to make the ultimate sacrifice. Yup.

Yes, that's exactly it. It's literally becoming "Screw the new cast and give me my precious TNG! Kill them all if you have too!" It's irrational and a bit disturbing the wish for death upon fictional characters expressed at times.

I don't know can't you tell but Data's death was stupid thing. Why's that?

Bcs Brent Spiner didn't want to end his Star Trek acting after Data's death. So we needed 1 million of stupid reasons to bring him back. All versions of Soong male family members. It looks stupid that every Soong looks the same. They needed to come up with something bcs Data's death. So it was much easier not to kill Data in Nemesis. We could always have Brent as Data later. Not Altan, Baltan, Maltan and Zaltan Soong.

So what if they kill Riker in Star Trek Picard? They will turn off every possibility to return that character later if they want to film a movie or a spin-oof.

It wouldn't be good without him. He is great character, great actor. They did the same thing with Rios.

I have no way of knowing that. It could be good, depending on the actors hired, the characters created, and the story told. Riker is not a god or the key to good Trek.

Maybe not to good Trek, but to good TNG spin-off as Picard is he must be.

I agree with all of this except possibly Riker. How do you figure with him? Do you think it's strictly story/character-related or because they want to keep Frakes as the man behind the camera?
Except there is another guy out there who looks exactly like Will. Frakes could play him instead (or maybe Tom's the death or would that be a copout)

I seriously believe none of the 6 remaining TNG main characters will die. 7 won't die. I think Shaw will die a hero's death. I possibly could see Raffi die. I think 1 of Titan's bridge crew will die or be a traitor or both. I am not sure on Crusher's son yet.

For me, it's less "they wouldn't kill the captain" and more "they pulled that once already and cheaped out on it", so it's not a storytelling choice I'd try for again in their shoes. Matalas isn't responsible for Chabon's decisions, but it would, imo, still dampen the impact to go back to that well. I'm sure they'll sunset Picard somehow, but I don't know that they'll off him.

The concept of this season has many times been stated as passing the torch to the next, next generation. The Enterprise-D crew has had quite a few adventures. Maybe they won’t kill any of them off but I’m betting this will be the last season of any of them as regular characters. I love this cast. They were the ones I grew up with but it’s time.

Just because you don’t like a character doesn’t mean they need to die. Raffi is actually an interesting character. And she’s a part of Starfleet Intelligence. And you’ve been told that multiple times. Yet you continue to ignore that bit of information. Because you’ve chosen to take your hate out on her for some odd reason.

The character stinks. Horribly written.

This. 100% this. Wishing a character to die because of dislike of the character comes across as a mean spirited opinion, pushing to the point of disturbing.

You keep mentioning that. Sorry the character is not a good character. Its like they plopped a 20th/21st century human in the 25th century. All the tng characters are much better.

That doesn't mean to wish death on a character. I couldn't stand many of the characters in Voyager but did I wish the ill at every turn? No. It's disturbing, significantly so. I hated it in when I saw it in Star Wars fans, and I hate it now, and I won't keep my mouth shut just because someone doesn't like a character.

....

If push comes to shove, I would prefer that Tom Riker be killed off not Will.

Pushing aside, "I just don't like it!" (unlike other people, I don't try to hide behind something else), we already have Brent Spiner playing Lore. So we have an actor playing their regular character's "brother" after said regular character died. I don't see why they need to do that twice.

Nah. She’s just different than your typical Starfleet Officer. She’s a complicated character, a recovering addict, and that’s actually interesting to some. Does it meet the Roddenberry human perception? No, but she’s also not the absolute best. The drive to reach that perfection makes interesting drama in my mind.

But you do you.

Yeah. I don't care. I want all he TNGs to survive.
