Really enjoyed this episode. I hope this season is this good.

Some thoughts.
My first thoughts on lady in red it would be Minuette, wrong on that one

I loved all the callbacks in the first scenes.

I get the impression that Shaw has some beef with the Borg. Just his resentment of Seven and Picard.

I do wonder if the subspacs weapon thingy is related to the aliens from Schisms. Those folks wearing masks made similar sounds.

Lastly I think we are going to recognize the main villain. I have some theories, mostly because the music really is pulling from Wrath Of Khan. I really can’t believe that is not deliberate.

Well, I had a little cry of joy at the end theme music. Loving this season. Feels like proper TNG style Star Trek and that the franchise has its mojo back again with this, SNW, Prodigy and Lower Decks. Thank you writers if you are reading this! One need is very happy.

When I was saying I feel bad for Briones, Cabrera, and Pill, I completely forgot about Evagoria. Elnor might be the most unfortunate “main” character of this era. He had an interesting first episode and then was wasted after that.

I did miss Rios and thinking about this episode some more, Rios and Raffi dealing with the Red Lady terrorist attack would have worked.

At this point William Riker pretty much IS Jonathan Frakes playing himself in a way similar to how later Roger Moore 007 movies were just Roger playing himself.

I just think its more people aren't used to Riker talking to Picard that way, but this has been how Frakes has played Riker for a long time even going back to the jokes he was making when they rescued Worf in First Contact.

But I do think we've seen Star Trek Picard show actors real life relationships on screen that may not really fit the characters they played on screen that we watched.

I personally thought the Q/Picard stuff last season was like way more Patrick Stewart/John de Lancie's relationship/feelings/friendship than Picard/Q.

I wonder if this might be because Chabon created Laris, and otherwise they would have to pay him residuals all season?

Ditto for Soji and Elnor.

That would make some financial sense at least, but I was under the impression that that rule only applied when the character was created by a freelance writer rather than a staff writer.

And we love him for it. :bolian:

Nothing on his IMDB. Is he a model as well or something like that ?

Just last year, he provided voice and motion capture for a character in the video game The Quarry, he booked an episode of Home and Away in 2021, an episode of Fantasy Island in 2020, and he appeared uncredited in an episode of Secret City in 2019. He's doing okay for himself acting-wise.

Really? I thought it pulled more from fan theories and the like that Q is in love with Picard and always has been.

Worf is Raffis "handler", calling ti now.

Maybe. On the other hand, Terry Matalas has said that some elements from DS9 would appear this season. What if her handler is a DS9 character (other than Worf)?

That
"Good recovery Admiral !" reminded me on ...

PICARD: Don't misunderstand me, Counsellor. Your mother is a beautiful person,
TROI: My mother is beginning a physiological phase. It's one that all Betazoid women must deal with as they enter mid-life.
RIKER: Yes, it's something Troi warned me about when we first started to see each other. A Betazoid woman, when she goes through this phase, quadruples her sex drive.
TROI: Or more.
RIKER: Or more? You never told me that.
TROI: I didn't want to frighten you. She has opted for the only dignified option open to her.
RIKER: Isolation?
TROI: She has decided to focus all of her sexual energy on one male, who will, of course, eventually become her husband. It seems, Captain, that you are the early favourite.
RIKER: Congratulations, sir!
PICARD: I'm not amused, Number One.

Riker represents the fan who misses the good old days and not just since yesterday.
That also fits with what he said on lower decks.

I mean, reviews already spoiled that the Troi and Riker drama is
just that they're still dealing with Thad's death and that he's broken by it and that she thinks he won't talk to her about it. I don't think it's anything more than.
I'm sure it'll be fine but seems like something they came up with just to cover Marina Sirtis not being able to film for the first three or four episodes this season.

Re: Shaw:

So apparently it’s being set up for the audience to not like him because of the way he treats the ‘heroes.’ This screams Jellico, a character created for the exact same reason. Except, just like Jellico, this is unwarranted because he’s actually a good officer. Personal bias on his part aside, his ship is being illegally appropriated by Riker and Picard, and another member of his crew whom he doesn’t seem to care for is helping them. He has every right to be angry. And who wants to bet that he’s gonna wind up dead because of all this? But it’s ok because he was mean to Seven, Riker and Picard. I find that just a bit annoying.
