Ya her relationship with Raffi was not taken well by some.

Any time a gay character even exists on screen (most recently Willow, The Last of Us and Strange World), a certain section of the population will froth at the mouth about it and use words like agenda and woke.

A lot of people lost their minds over Seven and Raffi holding hands at the end of season 1.

There's a certain segment of the population that was ok with gay characters as long as they were basically playing overly exaggerated caricatures... Basically your gay version of black people being 'minstrel chars' in movies in the early to mid 1900s.

They don't want gay people depicted as you know actual 'real people' who are normal.

I agree. There will always be people in the conservative/religious spectrum that will seethe.

However, I also see legit criticism. In the case of Seven and Raffi the inclusion of that scene did not add anything to the show, their character development, etc...It was the same thing with the last scene in The Legend of Korra with the titular character and Asami. It was just there to titillate. They just threw that in there to excite social media and hopefully have people remember a failing show.

None of whatever they were hinting between Raffi and Seven was followed up in S2 of STP. Maybe they were more like buddy cops in that season but that's about it. Then again, I'll admit I fastforwarded through a lot of the soap opera dialog of that show so maybe I missed something but I certainly didn't see them acting as if they were in a romantic/loving relationship. Maybe a deep friendship. Stamets and Culber they ain't.

In contrast, that last ep of The Last Of Us was superb. Excellent writing, acting, etc...As far as I'm concerned it could be a standalone mini movie about 2 gay guys in a post-apocalyptic world and it still works disconnected from anything to do with the overall TLOU storyline. Perhaps the only criticism of that ep was putting it as a third ep when perhaps you want more development of the main characters and the main story. Maybe as ep #4 or #5. Regardless, it was an excellent ep.

Personally, I tend to think scifi does a poor job with relationships overall, regardless of whether straight or queer, to the point that I don't want to see it. Culber and Stamets was the first relationship that Trek got right afaic.

This episode has officially brought the story past as far as I got in the game.

The situation in Kansas City is starting to have a NuBSG meets The Road vibe in the way it characterizes the villains and plays necessity against morality.

It's called queerbaiting, it's only a problem if there is no payoff and they just make the characters straight like they did with Bashir and Garek.

Maybe you should've watched it then you would've missed it. I thought that Raffi and 7 has been one of the highlights of Picard as a series, I'm hoping they spin them off into a Captain 7 of 9 show.

Thanks! I didn't know there was a name for that. Yep. That does describe what those scenes are.

I don't understand your first sentence. Did you mean to say "Maybe you should've watched it then you would not have missed it" instead?

It's a terrible show. It was tough to get through it. Those type of faux drama scenes don't do anything for the story at hand so I just generally fastforward through them.

"Meet the new boss. Same as the old boss."

But are they? Brutal, yes. But given I don't know the game, I'm not passing judgement yet.

No wonder you don’t like it, you’re ignoring half the show and the best part of it.

A little detail I loved from the latest episode was when they drove past the movie theater you could see the place was playing Underworld and Matchstick Men. Two movies that both came out in 2003. Same year of course that this world went under.

In fact I love they are using real things like Home Depot and Arby's and Loves signs and real things instead of tv version brands of those places. It adds to the realism IMO. I haven't done it myself but you just know their is some nerds out there looking over every vehicle shown on the show and seeing if it was made before or during 2003. Would not be shocked if they answer is yes.

Also I got to say. I wonder what happened to Bush in this world. Plus the news coverage must have been wild on that final night with CNN and FoxNews and the others. I bet half of coverage of the insanity was them wondering at least in America if it was another 9/11 style terrorist attack.

I wonder how much content they need to cut to finish the story in just 5 more episodes. I think they would of been better splitting the 1st game over 2 seasons. There is a natural cliff-hanger point in the game that would achieve this too.

Am I the only one who is kind of curious as to what some of these characters would be like in 2023 if their world hadn't died in 2003? Would Bill be a Trump supporter? Joel I am guessing would still be running his business. Maybe though he would have lost it after COVID. His Daughter would I imagine be a teacher maybe.

Ditto! The Loves sign reminded me of cross-country trips when I was a kid and seeing it dilapidated made me sad.

Likely very little, if any. The game can be finished in 10-12 hours and that includes lengthy sections of stealth/combat gameplay that the show can shorthand in a few scenes. The game's central narrative coming in around the 9-10 hour mark probably even opens the door for some expansion, as they did with Bill and Frank.

For context, the first three episodes (or roughly three hours), covers about the first 2 to 2.5 hours of the game, depending on how long you dwell on puzzles and combat/stealth encounters.

I tried. I'm not ignoring it 100% but after watching the same formula in CW DC shows repeated in STD and STP(I call those the "Can I talk to you for a minute" sections)....It's soap opera elements, faux emotional tension. It doesn't add anything to the plot. When I watch Trek I want to see scifi. Not emotional drivel. That's why SNW and even Prodigy work for me.

If you're gonna do emotional driven stories then it better be TLOU ep 3 quality. That was amazing. I'm glad it works for you. It doesn't for me.

Kansas City! ... Looks the same. ;)

I'm really liking how the relationship between Joel and Ellie is growing. It's cute.

I saw someone make a comment on twitter because Leonardo DiCaprio was talking up some 19 year old model that the ages of him and that model were the same as Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey and I was really surprised. I had no idea Bella Ramsey wasn't in her early to mid teens. Altho looking at filming dates the season started when she was 17 and then she turned 18 during it. Still would have had her pegged as more around 13-15 though.
