For those concerned about the lighting... check out the
season 2 trailer and compare to the final product. Here's the Blu ray forum review of STP season 2 on physical media's
screenshots. The color timing seems different, yes?
Another problem with STP on Paramount+ is the show is released in 1080p but with Dolby Vision. Unless you jack up the contrast on your TV, it can some up dark and undefined. This isn't a problem with SNW, which is done in 4K + DV, so gets the extra bandwidth. Or say Ghosts, which is in 4K but no extra color HDR or DV. Or something older like the original season of Twin Peaks, which is HD but no crazy color high dynamic range color schemes. If it really really bothers you, get Paramount+ through Amazon Prime, which I think shouldn't have the DV. Also look up your TV model on the AVS Forum, YouTube, or other reviews for calibration suggestions for your color settings. I have a Sony OLED, and have to make different settings for normal HD(SDR), HDR, and DV. Look and see if you see something like "peak luminance" -- set that to high. If that still isn't enough, see if there's something like an advanced contrast enhancer.
If you are a Game of Thrones fan, you may remember the controversy over the darkness during the 8x03 Battle of Winterfell. If you get the TV settings right, you can see everything...
