I'm not surprised. I liked the show, but couldn't find it often enough to watch it. I actually kind of like his Youtube format better, actually. I actually attended a live-taping of the Tonight Show back in 2013, and a day later I'd heard it would be his last year. But it was an amazing experience, and i actually got to shake his hand. While we were waiting to be let in, we knew who it was arriving at the studio just by hearing the engine of whatever he chose to drive that day.
If you've seen Community you know a lot of the show's sensibilities came from Dan Harmon. But I agree it'd be very hard to recast the voices. Roiland's criminal charges are just the tip of the iceberg, there's also dozens of non-criminal but very inappropriate things he's been accused of, many of them involving minors. He's not coming back regardless of the trial. I don't think it's a given though the show won't be as good, I want it to at least be given a chance.
Also, putting a show on hold--potentially for years--for just one person is just not happening. That's a lot of people effectively out of work with very little notice, and good luck reassembling everyone again at the other end of it. IMO they should either kill it now, or pivot the show in a new direction. Trying to recast *those* roles in *that* show and act as if nothing have changed is just not going to work. It's not just about mimicking the voices; the character performances are of a quasi-improvisational style which for better or worse is specific to *that* actor. With him quite rightly out of the picture, the smart move seems to be the move the talent they already have on the show to centre stage rather than try and fill that impossible void.
He's going back to Vegas to do stand-up, and he hosts a syndicated revival of You Bet Your Life that's produced by Fox Television Stations, but assuming Jay Leno's Garage doesn't land elsewhere, it'll be the first time since the mid-80s that Leno hasn't been employed by NBC Universal in some capacity.
Possibly because he's not really an actor or a voice actor? If you've seen him in some of the skits that were produced for the Tonight Show, and to some extent Jay Leno's Garage, it's clear that acting isn't his strong suit.
My wife and I tried watching Roland's show Solar Opposites. It felt like an AI trying to ape Rick and Morty humor without actually understanding how to be funny. In fact, ChatGPT would probably do a better job than Roiland.
Oh, I didn't know about that one. It sounds like a Cars-like thing? Well, in my defense, some people have a history of postings that are hard to parse.
Showtime cancels American Gigolo and Let the Right One In. Also, Showtime and Paramount+ are merging to become.... Paramount+ with Showtime.
I think I would just do a Jerry and a robot spin-off. Have Jerry and a robot traveling around in space or something meeting aliens and alternate earths.
