What do you think became of the Fenris Rangers by the 32nd century?

On one hand, I do not think the Fenris Rangers would be needed after reunification. Although what exactly happened with the worlds in the former Romulan Neutral Zone are nebulous, the Romulan Free State would have been absorbed into the Federation as territory controlled by Ni’Var, and it only would have been a matter of time before the worlds on the Romulan Neutral Zone would become a part of the Federation. But at the same time, with the Burn occurring, it seems like the Fenris Rangers would have a purpose again and return in some capacity, possibly to fend off the Emerald Chain in the absence of the Federation. But we never hear anything about them at all even in passing. Not like with the Gorn, the Borg, the Q Continuum, and the Klingons. Not even as a source of inspiration of a successor organization.

There is also the fact that Freecloud – where they stored their money – doesn’t appear on the star charts of the 32nd century. It’s supposed to be in the Alpha Doradus system in the Iconia sector. Several other systems are shown, ranging from Rator (a system formerly under the control of the Romulan Star Empire) to the Kazon Clan Forum. Did something happen to Freecloud, or does it just not appear on the star charts?

The reaon Freecloud doesn't show up on the star charts is because the effects team use the maps from the Star Trek: Star Charts book as a guide when creating the maps used in the show. Star Charts was printed twenty years ago long before Freecloud was even thought of.

As fascinating as that is, I'm not sure what that has to do with the topic of this thread.

I mean the future sounds so boring if that was a big issue even for the bad guys. I'd like to think the Fenris Rangers are still around in some form or another.

I doubt the DSC writers even care about the Fenris Rangers, because they were just a plot device to get Seven of Nine on the Picard show. They didn’t even bother to show any of them, or even adequately explain who they were.

Yes but then other things might have sprung up that they could have helped with, just saying

I mean, the Fenris Rangers are an organization that was created to try to bring some order to the instability caused by the collapse of the Star Empire and Starfleet's refusal to intervene. Expecting them to still exist long after order has been restored to former Star Empire territory and the Romulan people have emigrated to Vulcan is a bit like expecting the armies of the Germanic mini-states that arose in the wake of the collapse of the Roman Empire to still exist a thousand years later.

They just sent me my draft notice.

Think of all the good they could do in today's world.

Nothing wrong with that.

But in universe, I was wondering. If nothing bad happened to Freecloud, I wonder if it’s a hidden world, its location removed from the star charts?

I don’t expect Burnham and her crew to know or care about Freecloud. Based on Freecloud’s backstory, it had only been around for 75 years before their jump to the 32nd century.

There are companies on Earth that have been around for hundred of years. Its not unreasonable to wonder if the Fenris Ranger still exist, but with a changed mission statement.

Being corsairs, its possible they might be working for the Emerald Chain, or the Klingons, or some other unknown power.

Sure. But companies -- by which I assume you mean for-profit business firms -- are completely different entities from private militias, which is essentially what the Fenris Rangers are. Companies are organizations that rely upon the stability provided by governments to engage in commerce and which rely upon state institutions (and ultimately state violence) to protect their property interests. Private militias of the sort the Fenris Rangers represent tend to pop up in the absence of state institutions or state stability.

No one's saying it's impossible for the Fenris Rangers to still exist, but it's implausible. The private militias that developed in response to the collapse of the Iraqi government after the U.S. invasion, for instance, were gradually either absorbed by or ended up in conflict with the new Iraqi government. Most of the private militias that evolved during he Libyan civil war were either absorbed or dissolved after the rise of the new Libyan government. That's how it usually goes -- the private militia that emerges in the wake of state collapse normally either gets absorbed by the new regime or ends up dissolved.

Exactly. The need the Rangers rose up to meet was a very specific one, and once that need went away the organization would either fade or be absorbed by the new state.
