What are your controversial Star Trek opinions?

If TMP doesn't work, there's still four seasons of enterprise!

...and all of VOY, several TNG seasons (not the movies--that will send you into a coma). Oh--then, there's Picard...
I intend to watch ENT and VOY all the way through at some point, as I stopped watching early in their original on air runs.

I saw TNG (and DS9) all the way through on their original runs, but it's been a long time.

I've been watching all the new shows as they air.

TOS is better than TNG (this is not a "controversial opinion", it's undisputable fact:

  • TOS best episode (so considered by public and critic) : the Captain travels through time and saves the entire universe at great risk and terrible personal cost.
  • TNG best episode: the Captain plays a little flute, lives suburban life, dies of old age.

Bonus fact just to rub salt vampire in the 24th century wound: Spock's dad can beat up Data's dad

The "best" episode of TNG is not so universally recognized as the best episode of TOS. OTOH, in all the best TNG episodes I can think of the ship and crew are amazing and the captain gets his butt kicked. And sometimes the ship and crew as well. (Best of Both Worlds, Yesterday's Enterprise.)

Spock's dad can beat up Data's dad
But he wouldn't have to. Because he's that cool.

I was in the same boat. Prior to 2019 (when I was preparing for Picard), I hadn't seen most of TNG since high school.

Speaking of which...

I like TOS better than TNG too, but come on. This is like junior high. :p

I don't remember a flute in...

"The Measure Of A Man"
"Q Who"
"Yesterday's Enterprise"
"The Best of Both Worlds"
"The Drumhead"
"Darmok"
"All Good Things..."

Though "The Inner Light" did have the flute.

(My point being is that there are a number of TNG episodes that are widely considered 'the best'. And to be fair, TOS has a good amount of 'the best' episodes, too...

"BALANCE OF TERROR"
"ARENA"
"THE DEVIL IN THE DARK"
"ERRAND OF MERCY"
"THE CITY ON THE EDGE OF FOREVER"
"AMOK TIME"
"THE DOOMSDAY MACHINE"
"JOURNEY TO BABEL"

Pretty damn good for a show that lasted just 3 seasons.)

And Sarek beating up Noonien Soong... two things. First, are we in kindergarden? :)

Second, of course he could... any Vulcan, physically, against a human would win. Particularly Soong, who was not a fighter. And Sarek wouldn't bother to try... he's too smooth for such nonsense.

TNG has a special distinction that no other Trek series can boast... it was the one that started this sixty-year, multi-movie, multi-series, conventioning, cosplaying, YouTubing, BBS-ing JUGGERNAUT of a pop culture phenomenon. Only "Star Wars" (I guess they call it "A New Hope" now) can stay something similar.

:wtf:

Having trouble sleeping?

That’s happens to me sometimes…

:shifty:

TNG had more good episodes than TOS had episodes.

I'll accept first two, certainly. But TOS went off the rails in its second season and the less said about its third the better.
TOS went off the rails in the second season? Other than one other person who's notorious for being a contrarian, I've never heard that one before.

They had too many parallel Earth stories. That's the worst I can say about it. I like the greater focus on the action/adventure and more comedy. Plus they could do more with Kirk and especially Spock now that the writers had already established them.

While I like TOS season 2 more than most people probably do, I definitely agree that season 3 of TOS is the worst season of TOS. Whereas TNG season 3 had good to great episodes the whole way through... it's hard to find a clunker in there.

And I will also say that I enjoy TNG season 2 far more than most people, as well.

Completely agree with many that TOS season 1 is far superior to TNG season 1.

Eh? Why don't you? The only other position is imperialism and forcibly relocating a people.
Because the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few. The Baku were sitting on something that could have lengthened or improved the lives of billions of Federation citizens.

Only played by Jean Stapleton.

Really confuse everybody. Cast Maureen Stapleton.

And get Margot Rose to be Picard's missus.

That's a hell of trick for a show called "The Next Generation."

Bzzzzzzt! Sorry, Hans, wrong guess. Would you like to go for double jeopardy, where the scores can really change?
