Not necessarily controversial, but all the best discussions are going on in this thread...
HBO Family had a ST movie marathon New Year's Day and it was interesting watching them back to back. We started on SfS and went through Insurrection (I was too tired to try rewatching Nemesis, aka, "You will believe an android can fly.")
I don't think I ever noticed before that there was a throughline (3 through 6) with Klingon fear that peace with the Federation would lead to annihilation of their race. Does anyone know if that was planned or if writers just piggybacked off each other? I found it added a nice depth to the films as a group.
Then we got to Generations and... it wasn't bad. Compared to TUC and FC, it definitely wasn't as strong, but it passed the torch adequately and had some really good bits (including Worf's "initiation").
I love FC. Cromwell is a joy and Marina got some nice comedy to do. Yeah, the Queen probably wasn't a great choice, but Krieg's performance managed to be both creepy and sexy, which is a good trick.
Insurrection was... fine. Which is sad, because nothing with F. Murray Abraham should just be "fine." It was a 2 part TNG ep with money. Picard flirting was fun though.
