And not Andrew Garfield? The more I hear about what happened between WB, Gunn and Cavill; the more I am inclined not to watch Gunn's new DC universe. What am I saying? I know I won't be watching.
Ahh, but the defensive postures are already in place, pretty much painting a picture of Cavill just turning on a heel and crossing the street as if it meant little to him, when his own public statements revealed the polar opposite feeling, which does not erase the general awareness that actors do not like to be screwed over. Their time and interests are valuable, and in Cavill's case, the work put in to bringing him back to Superman was not achieved over a random weekend (more like more than a year). This was a carefully discussed / worked series of meetings until WB (Zaslav) and Cavill came to an agreement.
That Gunn shuffled in and tossed Cavill's agreement in the trash can, is the very reason there's been so much deserved and unceasing criticism pointed at Gunn, while Cavill has received one sympathetic notice after another (e.g., the Shatner tweet copied in this thread).
Some seem to be so glued to the output of studios (where fantasy franchises are concerned), that they--inexplicably--cannot understand that the individual has no obligation to continue supporting a studio / franchise, etc., if its no longer appealing to their taste or other sensibilities. It is this same group who could not "get" why countless Star Wars fans started to hit the brakes on the sequel series after the cheap ANH remake that was TFA, or flat-out dropped it after suffering through TLJ. Its undeniable that the MCU's movie and streaming output in recent years has driven innumerable former supporters away (expect insulting, or not very insightful explanations behind the exodus), likely never to return, but that's to be expected, as no fan is going to mainline a franchise--no questions asked / no creative concerns answered--until it all comes to a natural or forced end.
So, if you will not watch (read: pay for) Gunn's DC films, who can find fault with
your choice?
