The Picard Season 2 Rewatch Thread

A few weeks ago, I bought Picard Season 2 on Blu-Ray, but I didn't want to put it on until I finished re-watching Discovery Season 4. Last week I finally finished, and I also watched some older episodes of Trek that I thought connected well to Picard Season 2. So I had the Blu-Ray ready, I was going to put it on and watch it, with my projector, up against an entire wall with the lights turned off for the full cinematic experience...

... then I dropped my Blu-Ray Player while I was setting things up!

So I had to buy a new one at Target. Then, when I got home, I connected the new Blu-Ray player to the projector and I was ready to go!

I've re-watched "The Star Gazer" and "Penance" so far. I'll say this, I think Picard Season 2 is very much a page-turner of a season. And "Penance" still gets my adrenaline pumping while watching.

One thing that stood out to me this time while re-watching "Penance" was when Jurati and The Borg Queen exchanged glances. I didn't think anything of it when the episode first aired but now, knowing where it's all going, that glance took on extra meaning.

EDIT: I'm on the third episode. I forgot that Jurati wanted to establish a connection with The Borg Queen this early on.

The whole season is good. Juratti is given a great storyarc for season 2. Annie Wersching did a great job in the role as the borg Queen and they were a highlight of season2. If there is a Picard spinoff series I hope they'll bring Juratti back again.

I've been hyping myself up to do this. Discovery season 4 started strong but became a slog. I was higher on PIC S2 than many here and even my family, but I'm a little worried how it'll play on second viewing. We shall see.

I rewatched season 1 before season 2 started. But season 2 was a little disappointing to me so I don't have any plans for a rewatch at the moment.

I thought the first episode was fantastic, second episode and finale were good too. But the parts with the crew going back to our present time were not great. I expected TVH style fish out of water fun but it was a slog.

I'm on the fourth episode, I have to get this out while it's still fresh on my mind. I picked this up on re-watch. I blame watching this so late at night on why I didn't pick it up before.

i was wondering why Guinan didn't recognize or remember Picard. Picard doesn't mention his name all episode and Guinan doesn't want to help him until he finally says his name. Then she says "Shit." And tells him about The Watcher.

She says she can count on her hand the number of people who called her an El Aurian, so there was more than one. And it's been a llllllooooonnnnngggg time. 130 years long time. If I run into someone I haven't seen in 30 years, I'm not going to remember them. Forget about 130. Names get fuzzy, but I don't forget faces. The only problem is: if enough time passes, I'm not going to immediately recognize the face either. But if Guinan remembered Picard's name, that would be the trigger. That would make her remember that this is who she met in "Time's Arrow", not one of the other people who knew she was El Aurian and might or might not have exactly been of the highest character.

So Guinan did remember the events of "Time's Arrow". She just needed a name and it came back to her.

Which means the Punk on the Bus was also still visited by Kirk and Spock in TVH.

Time hasn't been changed yet, so all the trips to the past that happened before are still valid. At least according to the rules of time-travel as established in PIC Season 2.

On another note: I love when Seven and Raffi are on the run in the cop car they stole!

A couple of other observations:

• When Picard makes the connection that Jurati gave him the 15th volume of a book, the 15th of something else, and she handed him wine with a vintage of 1915, he notes to recurrence of the number 15. This is a callback to "Cause and Effect" with the recurrence of the number 3.
  
  
• When Rios tells ICE about where and when he's from, he believes it about as much as the officers who captured Kirk in "Tomorrow Is Yesterday" and Chekov in Star Trek IV.

I go by what I see.

He probably went out of his way to explain things to a bunch of -- how do I put this diplomatically? -- a bunch of reactionaries online. He just wanted to quiet them down, so he was willing to say anything if it would have that effect. These are not exactly the most reasonable people. Sometimes you have to tell them what they want to hear because they have a bad habit of getting stuck. Sometimes very stuck. I've resorted to the "tell them what they want to hear" tactic a few times myself with different things, if I thought I was getting nowhere with someone and wanted to end the argument.

Re-watch the episode again. It's right there in broad daylight. Picard says his name, then Guinan finally cooperates. Right at that moment. Later on, she says The Watcher doesn't tolerate any mistakes. So Guinan had to make sure Picard was who he said he was. And she couldn't do that if he wouldn't even give his name.

It's been many months, so I don't remember the exact sequence of online events, but I don't see why they'd go out of their way to explain something that hadn't even aired yet. It's a peculiar thing to do. I don't think they needed to explain it, but I guess they felt like they had to for whatever reason. I think they should just have something out there and people will discuss or debate it no matter what.

What I'm saying is they didn't make up the explanation on the spot after people started asking why. They had already conceived of a reason while writing the season.

SOO many people missed that I think there should have been a line in the episode about it. But it also contradicts the bullet holes always being in the Chateau. Because the timeline where Guinan doesnt know Picard exists at the same time as the normal timeline. I guess its all timey wimey..when Renee went on her mission did 2023 Guinan suddenly remember the events of Time's Arrow..so she remembered a time not knowing who Picard was from the 1800s and then suddenly the memories came back to her?

I've been a prisoner to my computer while doing video editing for my independent film (on top of working at a shitty day job). Which allows me to post here... But doesn't allow me to watch something with my full, undivided attention.

I promise I'll get back to this re-watch, just like I eventually did with DSC Season 4.

Ok, here goes - about to start my season 2 rewatch. One thing I remember thinking from the finale, which relates to the premiere, why didn't the Jurati borg queen show her face and explain anything before Picard blew up the ship?

I started my rewatch a few weeks ago. I’ve got 2 eps left to go which I should be able to get to this weekend. When I rewatched S1 before S2 I found that it improved quite a bit. Still not perfect by any means but still much better. I was hoping for S2 that the middle of the show wouldn’t drag for me as much as it did the first time. Sadly it comes off a bit worse. But not bad, just boring.

really, the biggest issue is a lot of stuff feels tacked on after the fact in order to get the show to the 10 ep mark. Like, Tallinn feels like she was added in late because people loved the actress in S1.

The stuff with Adam and Kore…I don’t know why it’s there beyond that they had Spiner and Briones under contract and had to use them.

there is still lots to like, Stewart and deLance just work so well together. Cabrera and Pill are very good, so is young Guinan. But really eps 3-8 have so much filler it’s rediclious.

I'll see how my opinions change (if at all) when I go through the season. When I first watched I felt the same as you but did from a story standpoint, but did enjoy continuing to see Spiner part of the show. I was more annoyed by them using the Laris actress in another role. And I liked ISA Briones in the first season but the Kore role didn't feel like a good fit.

So I rewatched Stargazer. I have some small nitpicks about how much time passes between the time the anomaly forms and the time Picard and everyone gets there...seems pretty quick (48 hours) and Jurati is even in the same clothes from the party (unless that was a uniform of some sort) - it reminds me of the instantaneous travel we see in the Kelvin-verse. I also don't feel like Q's statements about Picard being on trial and being angry at and hitting him fit with Q's actions in the season finale - at all. I mean Q was angry and hit Picard because he was upset he never let go of his Trauma? (Q would have known all this during his TNG interactions with Picard) That he never found love? Not really buying it. I wonder if they had another idea for Q's trial at some point.

Other than that I have nothing else negative to say about it. It's a solid episode. I feel like I actually liked it a bit more now knowing what Picard's trauma is and the flashbacks aren't so shrouded in mystery. For a show called Picard I also like to see the initial flashbacks of his youth.

Struggling through the season. Couldn't get through episode 5. I think it's definitely worse for me the second time around now knowing what happens and how pointless some of these scenes feel. First two episodes were good, and then I started to lose interest during 3. Raffi and Seven walking around the city with horrible dialogue was just awful. Raffi, who is supposedly supposed to care for 7, responds like this when 7 is happy that a stranger was nice to her: "You and 2023 should get a room" Just bad.

Now knowing that Q's goal here is for Picard to face his trauma, seeing him pretend to be a therapist with Renee (how long was he Renee's therapist? Months? )and wasting time meeting with Soong just doesn't make any sense. He also wanted Soong to run over Picard, which again doesn't make sense with how Q's last scene with Picard went. Also now we know Q was angry with Picard and hit him because he's angry Picard never settled down? I just don't think the season as a whole makes any sense.

Yes, but I think that is a bad line and the banter wasn't particularly good.
