Dr. Boyce question

Bynar0110

I've been watching a bit and pieces of SNW, especially after seeing SNW's take on the Balance of Terror and I have one question.
What happen to Dr. Boyce?

Boyce seemed old enough to need to make his way to Talos IV and die from dehydration.

We have no idea what happened to Boyce. He could be anywhere. For all we know he's an Admiral and head of Starfleet Medical or something like that.

I would actually love to see him turn up on SNW in some fashion. Played by, of course, Len Cariou from Blue Bloods. :mallory:

Perhaps he was inspired by his conversation with Pike, and retired from Starfleet to go into business on Regulus or on the Orion colony.

John Hoyt was actually just 59 when he filmed "The Cage", even if he looked older. He lived another 27 years afterwards.

Human life spans have extended, although it seems like human youth has not. They get old as quickly as we do, and then then just keep getting older without dying.

Still, Boyce could have been decades older than Hoyt.

Is there forced retirement?

Picard was in his 80s when he quit?

SF was planning to put "ambassador at large" Robert April out to pasture at 75 before reconsidering.

Medical officers come and go sometimes. See also Piper and Pulaski.

No reason to expect that Pike's crew would have no turnover since "The Cage." Heck, even looking beyond doctors, Kirk lost Rand and gained Chekov over the course of his five-year mission.

Agreed.

Also, transfers should happen a lot more than we usually see in Trek.
