New Logo revealed

I agree with all of that, assuming that Davies does build beyond the mothership show like he did before but perhaps even more so. If he's doing just Doctor Who, I don't know if he'll stay very long.

I agree Gatwa won't stay longer than the now traditional three years. I only mused on the thought of staying longer than Davies only if Davies left in short order to allow a more permanent showrunner. All of this is hypothetical until we get a better idea of what Davies has planned.

Incidentally, Sadie Miller (i.e. Lis Sladen's daughter and currently voicing Sarah Jane alongside Tom Baker for Big Finish) made this wonderful suggestion on Twitter on Sunday:

If there's another spin off, can we all agree that the Sarah Jane Adventures' torch / baseball bat should now be passed to @sophie_aldred & @jfmouthonlegs?
To which I say: MAKE THIS HAPPEN.

(Both Sophie and Janet retweeted saying they love the idea!)

I just heard that they want to change the name of the show, so not sure if a new logo matters or if the naming rumour is even true but whatever?

I would watch the ever loving hell out of that!

I do wonder something: Depending on how long Davies sticks around this time around (I'm betting no more than one, maybe two full seasons depending on finding a new showrunner) if Gatwa will stay longer than Davies.

I expect Davies to stay longer this time, but I also expect him to slowly step back from the front line as time passes, write fewer episodes and maybe even relinquish control of individual seasons to others without ever completely stepping down.

I can't see Gatwa staying much longer than the traditional 3(ish) years. I think the only way we'll get another Pertwee or Baker is if they hire a 40s/50s character actor whose career is sliding (or who maybe never had much of a career before Who) someone who knows this is the best gig they're ever going to get. And do we want another 7 season Doctor? I sometimes think Tom's longevity in the role is one of the reasons the show began a decline (even though Davison perked things up again briefly).

That said if Who becomes a properly global phenomena again and they can afford to pay Gatwa the big bucks, and give him space to pursue his own projects who knows?)

How long Davies stays will be interesting to see.

I'm actually guessing he'll stay longer. My sense is that he wants to be Emperor of his own Empire. Showrunner writ large. He's talked about having multiple spinoffs and specials. I'm guessing here, but I'm wondering if the BBC offered him greater control, creative freedom, and more money to get his vision off the ground. He might not be involved in the day-to-day stuff for the various shows, like SJSA, but providing the big picture direction.

If that's true, he'll be there for more than a couple of seasons, unless the whole thing flops.

Conversely, I don't see Ncuti staying longer than the traditional three seasons. He's a young guy looks to be going places. He has a bright future. Similar to Tennant. It'll be hard to keep him tied down to a single TV show.

But we'll see. It'll be interesting. Lots of change in the air!

Yeah like Tennant and Smith he'll soon have bigger fish to fry if he's as good as people say he is.

I'd buy that for a dollar!

I too, would believe the word of a...checks google...weather presenter?

I don't always believe them about the weather, not sure I'd really trust them on thing Who related

I'd say RTD will stick around at least until the end of Gatwa's run. And Gatwa is definitely gone as soon as his contract is up. His star is already on the rise and he's friends with Hollywood A-Listers. Ryan Gosling of all people goes around wearing a t-shirt with Gatwa's face on it! Combined with the fact that actors like Tennant and Capaldi, who have been life long fans that considered becoming the Doctor to be their career goal were gone the minute their contracts ended, and that makes it certain Gatwa will follow suit.

I will confess, it does raise questions what will happen to the show when RTD leaves this time. BBC wanted to end it last time he left, and they might well have ended it with Chibnall's departure if RTD hadn't come back. I see only two options for it continuing when RTD leaves. Either he trains a protege to take over as a new showrunner who inspires confidence from BBC, or they somehow get Moffat to come back as showrunner.

I am seeing rumors online that this logo is only for the 2023 specials and the "series proper" afterward will have a different logo.

Anyone else hearing this, or can confirm or deny?

I've only seen speculation in this very thread that might be the case but nothing beyond that.

Based on interviews (plus some extrapolation), RTD's hope seems to be to have an empire running. Ultimately, being the guiding vision more than day to day. Think of the model with the current Star Trek shows. (I don't know about the Marvel stuff at all, but maybe there's an analogy there too.)

If it does get to that point, when RTD eventually retires, the BBC would be more than willing to continue it.

Of course, that depends on successfully reigniting the main series and starting other spin offs.
