Russell T. Davies Returns to Doctor Who as New Showrunner

I'm with Lonemagpie on this one. Her level of hubris was infuriating and what got her killed.

In other news RTD has a new ssupervillain...

The Prime Minister resigned today - the second time that's happened this year. Cue this tweet, in reference to Harriet Jones...

I was more thinking along the lines of during the RTD era Who, and extended franchise, Britain went through a lot of Prime Ministers (in universe). Off the top of my head there was:
Unnamed PM killed by Slitheen.
Slitheen acting PM
Harriet Jones
Unnamed successor
Harold Saxon/the Master
Aubrey Fairchild*
PM from Torchwood Children of Earth
Unnamed successor

*The name Aubrey Fairchild comes from The Writer's Tale and was intended to be the Prime Minister in The Stolen Earth who would be killed by the Daleks. Though scripted, the scene was never filmed. I included since he was referenced in text in an SJA episode. The name was also reused in The Next Doctor.

I’ve also seen someone blame Russell and David for Boris Johnson’s supposed interest in being PM again; they seem to have set a precedent for returning to a job! ;)

Biggest rumor is she is going into a reverse regeneration and an old PM will appear

I know I’m now in the realms of splitting hairs (we’re nerds, that’s what we do) but I think the announcement on Thursday was her intention to tender her resignation as both conservative leader and PM as soon as a successor is chosen. She is still PM on the twitter account and the gov.U.K. Website.

Just did the research on that. The last British PM to not have any Doctor Who air at all during their time in office was Harold Macmillan, who left office in October 1963.

As for the Wilderness Years, Thatcher was still PM when the show went on hiatus in 1989. Her successor was John Major, who was in office from 1990 to 1997, meaning the 96 TV movie aired while he was PM. After him was Tony Blair, who would remain PM until just a few days before the revived show's third season finale aired.

Fascinating stuff.

Peter Capaldi is not coming back anytime soon

Hmm. I don't want to read too much into the response of "I've done my time. I'm leaving it there instead of digging up more of it" Would that be a slight at Tennant? or anyone that came back?
