Spoilers The Ships of Lower Decks

At least they didn't refer to it as a Deneva class starship. One of several ship porn things I disagreed with Okuda about in the Encyclopedia.

Someone's been building that one for multiple customers over the decades, and I'm also curious as to the design's backstory.

The nacelles on the S31 Defiant were more angular, I wonder if that was the art style, or an intentional change. The colour scheme of it was also similar to the Section 31 ships in Discovery, especially the colour of the blue bussard collectors.

The two darker things on top of the saucer that look like extensions of the pylons from some angles are torpedo launchers

I wonder what the 149 other Federation member worlds think of Starfleet continually naming their ships after Earth cities.

I guess the NA registries are just for automated ships, not that Starfleet has started a new registry system resetting the numbers back to 01.

The Texas Class looks very much like something borrowed from STO.

Two observations:
If Aledo is NA-01, what would be the registry of the presumed class-ship, the USS Texas? Or are pilot ships no longer named for the class now?
Also, that NA-01 registry reminds me of the mission patch in "First Flight" that was (mistakingly) labeled NA-01 instead of NX-01. It's canon now lol.

Good point about the registry. Unless the Texas’s registry is NA-00. Or maybe there is no USS Texas.

Going back to the episode, Buenamigo does say the Aledo is the 'first of three' automated starships... So maybe there is no USS Texas indeed.

Y'know, in looking at this from a different angle, perhaps some ship class names derive their nomenclature from "project" names, as opposed to the first ship of the line. What if this was a special experimental automation test build named "Project Texas". The ships of this type are considered "Texas-class" starships, but there is no USS Texas. A stretch, I know, and very much out of the usual norms of ship design, but why not? What if the USS Reliant and others like her was a part of a "Project Miranda"; the Grissom from "Project Oberth", etc.? Some class ships we have seen on screen (particularly the big fleet scene at the beginning and end of PIC S3 - I think there were at least 5 class-named ships there) but most we haven't. I mean, hell, we've never actually seen the "USS Constitution"! We've only ever assumed that it existed with an NCC-1700 registry because of FJ's work! The ship has never even been mentioned on-screen as being a member of the fleet and a sister ship to the Enterprise! I think this could be a nice potential safety valve for explaining some inconsistencies about starship registries and lineage.

Or maybe I'm just talking outta my ass... Can't tell the difference much any more. :D
