Looks like Harrison Ford is going to be the new Thunderbolt Ross for the next Captain America film. It's been reported on at least four websites now that Disney and Marvel have locked down Ford for the role to replace the late William Hurt.

Guess the next Cap movie is going to be an Indy film. I'll go now.

I'm still surprised Ford said yes to this, knowing how he feels about Fandom movies.

It will be funny seeing how absolutely apathetic he'll be during interviews though.

Ford likes money. If his ongoing role is anything like Hurts, he'll show up on a set for two days a year, put on a suit, and make more $$$ than the rest of us see in a lifetime.

Rumor.

Often enough websites reference each other without fact check giving a rumor a life of its own. I'll believe it when Marvel or Ford confirm it, not before.

This.

Those are both editable by users and thus not entirely reliable anyway though, right?

Yes, and some of the internet's worst offenders where "anything / any idea goes" user entries posted as fact is concerned. At this point, why would Ford take on the role? Between his age, and a history of not having the warmest feeling for fantasy movies--even when he starred in them (i.e. the Star Wars films)--this rumor seems less than credible--for the moment.

I think Ford's mood depends on the day - some days he really comes off as a grumpy old fart who hates Star Wars, other days he's ok with it and occasionally, when doing other projects, he really seems to have a lot of fun ( the promo tour for Blade Runner 2049 must have been really fun for him judging by the clips that are in Youtube).

If the Marvel rumor is true there might be something to the role that intrigued him. He certainly doesn't need the exposure nor does he need the money so that's the only thing left. Could also be quite a limited role perfect for his age as he doesn't have to lead the movie ( i can only guess).

Would be cool though to see him before he finally hangs up his hat and calls it a career ( i am nearly praying that Indy 5 won't suck, would be a shame to end a career with something on the level of Indy 4).

Ford doesn't care about SW, but he always enjoyed being Indiana Jones. And eventually he came around and appreciated Blade Runner. I mean, he's never complained about playing Dr Kimble in the Fugitive movie.

I'm not quite sure I believe the Ford rumor quite yet, but it would be cool if it's true.
And despite his less than fond feelings for Star Wars, those don't seem to extend to all SFF since in just the last 11 years he's also done Cowboys & Aliens, Ender's Game, and The Age of Adeline.

Doesn't anybody think that Ford is too old for the role at this point, and even if he were younger, is not quite right. Don't we want an actor who will be returning for future movies?

Still, you'd have to wonder why he would do it; since he does not need the cash, and he's never expressed a desire to appear in any superhero films. Does he have an opinion on that genre one way or the other?

I suspect he would be nothing more than stunt casting ("...and Harrison Ford as...") and end up either forced into a sub-plot only created because Ford was involved, or end up absorbed into a very character-bloated MCU portraying a man who has not been as significant to the story of any MCU film's plot since his 1st appearance in The Incredible Hulk. Yes, he was an "antagonistic" in Civil War, but the real motivator behind what would be the film's real conflict was Zemo, not Ross/the accords. Remove Zemo's Bucky-targeted shenanigans, and there's no real "civil war", since their disagreements with Ross were not edging toward hostilities on the superheroic level.

Could be that this is Ross' last plotted appearance in the MCU, and he's going to die in this. So having Ford do a one and done role fits that?

If that's all they'd be doing with Ross, they might as well deepfake Hurt's face onto a body double, have the voice actor from 'What If' dub his lines and dispose of him that way. It'd be creepy as hell, but it'd work if they'd didn't have him in too many scenes.

Another possibility: They might have had Ford's likeness/voice rights already locked up for 'digital actor' appearances in future Star Wars projects (like with Mark Hamill and, recently, James Earl Jones), and figured "Well, since we've got him anyway and Hurt died too soon and we really need Red Hulk going forward, let's pull him in for this one thing just long enough to turn him into Red Hulk and then we can keep that character all CGI/AI from then on."

He's an a-lister and that's where the big excitement is these days. Why would Redford or Michael Douglas and whoever do comic book movies? Connery retired when he couldn't figure out the right horse to bet on turning down Gandalf, Hammond and Morpheus. Besides no matter how rich you are another $5-20+ million is nothing to sneeze at.

Because making money is still a part of life. Like Ted Turner once said when asked, "How much is enough?" "Just a little bit more. "

Do you really think Ford thinks superhero movies are exciting?

Besides no matter how rich you are another $5-20+ million is nothing to sneeze at.

Then, that suggests he did not find being in a film/genre of that kind exciting, but its more of a cash grab, despite the fact he does not need another dollar.
