So, we're a month out from Wakanda Forever. Do we really not have an anticipation thread? Is it really worth starting one a month out?

I wonder if that speaks to the general anticipation level. I have to admit, that my anticipation is fairly subdued and more leveled on the introduction of Namor than anything else. I have no real investment in the Shuri character and I'm not a real big fan of Letitia Wright in general.

It's possible that people aren't as interested and there is the unique factor of Boseman's unfortunate circumstances which may be dampening interest.

However, I wonder if we have gotten to a point where these are just becoming a known part of the "news cycle" and are just treated as such. Like we know we have another episode of She-Hulk, and then Black Adam (I know it's DC...) so maybe those need to be cycled through before we see hype build for Wakanda? Or Star Wars, should we be thinking about the other projects while were in the middle of watching Andor?

Also, it's kind of on us megafans that track all these dates and stuff. I don't get too disappointed when a date slips on something I've been following before it's even entered actual production, shit happens.

I very much enjoyed the character of T'Challa/Black Panther, in Civil War, Black Panther and Infinity War. But the movie itself wasn't that amazing to me. I loved the art direction, the cinematography, the acting. But the movie never really grabbed me. And sofar, the sequel isn't grabbing me. I'll watch it at some point, for sure. But I'm not hyped about it.

Well, most of the talk has been happening in here. That and the film has been pretty secretive in comparison to the last three films. Most of what we know are either from the trailers or toy leaks.

This is exactly what I mean, and why I just shrugged at that Wolverine/Deadpool announcement. I don’t understand how people can get excited for this stuff when it’s always delayed and these dates they throw out, the MCU ones only a few weeks ago, mean absolutely nothing.
Two years ago now since Disney made all those Star Wars announcements. Tell me, how’s Lando coming along for example. Oh, nothing whatsoever in two years? Great..

I think @Ethros is laughing at the news, and the usual problems associated with productions right now of delays and push backs at times, not any one poster here.

This news wouldn’t be so bad if it had been a while, but the announcement of Secret Wars et al was what, a month ago?

The Rogue Squadron movie is another example. Don’t announce something if you don’t even have any proper firm plans in place

I think they announce preliminary plans because they know they'll get reported on anyway, and they want to get ahead of them. And I think some parts of the process have to be public, like filing for trademarks on the titles and scheduling release slots with theaters.

I liked Black Panther a lot and I'm excited for Namor to come into the MCU, but I don't really go for the whole "separate an actor from their actions" thing, especially when its not something the actor works on fixing, so the idea that Letitia Wright might become the new permanent Black Panther, even though she was apparently a pain in the ass on set for many reasons, has really killed my enthusiasm. If I just knew that, say, she'd be gone after this film (through character death or recasting) my excitement would probably go up a lot, but the idea that the movie might end with a nutjob anti-vax asshole standing tall dressed as the Black Panther just really kills a lot of my excitement.

I'm still going to watch the movie, and it might be great, but one bad apple can definitely spoil the whole bunch. I'm hoping that they just couldn't get rid of her during production and intend to get her out of the franchise after this film, but Evangeline Lily is pretty much the same kind of asshole and her position seems really secure, so I'm worried that the MCU people might be more willing to put up with the kind of trash that the Star Wars people ejected as soon as they revealed their true colors.

I'm reminded of a passage in the book "The Making of George A. Romero's 'Day of the Dead'" which reads in part, "In the May 4, 1983 26th International Film Annual edition of Variety magazine, Laurel Entertainment took out a nine-page spread advertising their upcoming projects, including 'The Stand', 'Creepshow 2', 'George A. Romero's Frankenstein', 'Day of the Dead', and several other titles that would ultimately never be produced."

Only two films, 'Creepshow 2', and 'Day of the Dead', would end up being filmed. Movies get announced, then put on the back burner or 'development hell' all the time. Heck, there was supposed to be a "Mission: Impossible" theatrical movie that was set for the summer of '86 with Leonard Nimoy attached to direct that never made it to screen.

Ooh, that would've been interesting. Predating the TV revival by a couple of years. I'm guessing it would've reunited at least some of the original cast, and probably been truer to the original series than the eventual movies were.

Yeah, it really is a shame what those two actresses turned out to be like, I like their MCU characters a lot, but their behavior has dampened my enthusiasm for them a bit.

Matvel's track record so far can't even be compared to... well... any current franchise, really. Especially Star Wars which was all but canceled theatrically until they figure out what they're doing.

Future film announcements aren't just for fans, they're also for investors. See the Star Trek 4 announcement earlier this year that no reasonable person ever expected to actually happen by the announced date.
