We have seen in ENTERPRISE subspace buoys being dropped to amplify signals in "SILENT ENEMY". We also saw an entire array used just for communication in "Aquiel".

I can totally see a large network of signal amplifiers littered across Federation space. Like interstellar cell phone towers.

So probably the more realistic version of the Memory Alpha planet if it was made up today would be a bunch of "Severs"/"Data Storages" located through the Federation that would ease access through its territory/possibly known space.

Maybe each starbase could have those servers as they are widely spread enough to give coverage but should also always be within range of a subspace beacon

One problem with a Federation wide "internet" is the speed of subspace radiation.

As I remember there were about half a dozen episodes of TOS where Kirk subspace conversations with Starfleet Admirals, requiring speeds much greater than one light year per second, or 31,557,600 times hte speed of light.

And in ENT Captain Archer sometimes had subspace conversations with Earth, requiring such speeds.

But in TOS there is also "Balance of Terror" where it took Kirk hours to get an answer from the nearest command base. And in "The Enterprise Incident":

Unfortunately, "this galaxy ain't big enough" for real time converstions between even the closest stars (at least in the parts of the galaxy around Earth where most epsiodes areset) on one hand and a subspace message taking 3 weeks to reach some place in the galaxy on the other hand. At least the galactic disc isn't and if some episodes happen beyong the galactic disc in the galactic halo the edge of the galaxy in "Where No Man Has Gone Before" would be very far from Earth and very high warp speeds would be needed to reach it, inconsistent with "By Any Other Name".

The structure of the galaxy is rather granular, so the entire diameter of the galactic disc is only about 20,000 times the average separation between a star and its nearest neighbors in our region of the galaxy.

Of course I can think of two separate theories to explain such differences in subspace communication speeds, but they wouldn't allow for instant computer access very far beyond Federation or known space.

Conversely in FC you have (if I remember correctly) the EE patrolling the Neutral Zone and having a real time call with Admiral Hayes in Sector 001 which would imply that by then there were no such issues.

I think it is fair in TOS era to assume that post Klingon War there is sufficient infrastructure damage that the subspace network (probably ran by 3 judging by the lack of service) is not as well connected but maybe there was an active effort between then and TNG to rebuild as we see there are many more outposts, starbases, etc so there would likely always (in the Alpha and Beta Quadrant at least) be somewhere within range.

That would match with the real world to an extent where there is a mobile network tower every few km in most developed countries now but 20 years ago it was very easy to go into an area of no network

Or how about an entire series?

'Janeway to Tuvok. I forgot one little detail. Install explosive charges in the core of the Array, sufficient to ensure no major components can be salvaged, and program them to detonate no less than 10 and no more than 50 milliseconds after the system has confirmed completion of our transport back to the Alpha Quadrant. Oh, and install backups, too, to make absolutely certain it goes. Janeway out'.

Best part of this is that they called themselves out on it in the conspiracy episode with 7!

    Great shout mate

Could the Borg be beaten by FTL "missiles"?
In 'The Best Of Both Worlds' Riker ordered a collision course with the Borg cube, might he have used warp speed or impulse or what?

    Warp, presumably. See this fragment:

More likely sublight ones based on FC where Picard mini guns them down I reckon

    Photon torpedoes are FTL capable.

AFAIK, yes. In my eyes, the reason Riker orders the Enterprise to go to warp and collide with the cube is simply that it causes the largest explosion they are capable of causing. (after they found photon torpedoes and even the deflector dish burst did nothing to them).

Torpedoes themselves are not capable of warp. But they are the go to weapon when a ship is at warp because beams dissipate while at warp. Torpedoes, as solid objects, do not dissipate.

That rings a bell as being one of the rules in older episodes/series but I'm sure we've seen Voy and NX-E at the very least fire their phasers whilst at warp.

    I could be mistaken though...

We definitely saw it at least once on ENTERPRISE... I believe it was in "FALLEN HERO".

I don't think it happened on VOYAGER, though.

Possibly - my memory isn't what it used to be.

I'm picturing Voyager being pursued and someone firing on them but with 7 x 26 episodes to rewatch through to confirm it I'll take your word

You might be thinking of "DRAGON'S TEETH", where they were leaving the Vaadwaur planet and were being fired upon as they were leaving the world. They fired phasers all around them at various ships, but stopped as soon as their nacelles were flipping to go to warp.

Either that or Species 8472 chasing the Borg but you could argue Borg tech might be more advanced (if I remember them firing - I'm certain in Endgame they did as well) and 8472 isn't technically a phaser, it just looks like a particle beam
