It was OK, overall. Mostly it was the victim of not being given much of a fair shake, forced to tie-in to an in-production movie without any serious reciprocation (possibly due to the BTS troubles), and had way too short a run.

It would have been so much better if it was just allowed to be a low-stakes adventure show about racers and barnstormers on the edge of nowhere, with the First Order "mystery" being something that built slowly in the background over time, not the focus of the season from the very beginning.

It's crazy how they had to wait until the second season to introduce most of the other racers properly. That should have been what most of the first season was about!

The kiddie-appeal slapstick schlock, puerile dialogue and clichéd idiot-main-character-gets-into-trouble-yet-somehow-manages-to-save-the-day-every-week plotlines made most 70's sitcoms look innovative. They even managed to repackage Jar Jar in the form of Neeku Vozo (albeit only slightly less irritating, admittedly). IMO, of course. I just flat-out don't like the damn thing. I gave it a try and stuck with it for a while, but gave up after Season 1 ended. Just couldn't stomach the cutesy crap anymore.

Season 2 was even worse somehow.

I watched most of Season 1 of Resistance and thought it was OK, not bad, but definitely the weakest of all of the animated series.

Particularly since the promotional material for the first season focused entirely around the racers, yet they were barely in it.

I could certainly have done without the slapstick . . . but on the other hand I'm about 3 decades clear of the target audience, so I'm not about to begrudge a kid's show for being aimed at kids.

I enjoyed it. I think I enjoyed it slightly more than I did "The Clone Wars". The latter is a good show, but I believe it was overrated. The only aspect of "Rebels" I did not like was its final episode. I found it disappointing.

The thing with the droid, yes. But I don't remember seeing the origin of the purple saber in that show. I think that was in one of the comic books. There is still a contingent of fandom that considers the 2D animated Clone Wars microseries to be the 'real thing,' and decries the later Clone Wars series for contradicting it.

Also, I didn't really enjoy Resistance. Overall I would describe it as 'insipid.' I think I still have yet to make it all the way through the series. I enjoyed some aspects of Rebels, but overall liked the Clone Wars better.

Parts of the 2D series have made it back into canon. The Battle of Dantooine (the Mace Windu episode mentioned above) was referenced in the CG Clone Wars, but a recent comic also recreated a shot from it, the one of Windu running up the side of one of the machines.

The episode with the crashed Acclimator and Grevious picking off Jedi (Battle of Hypori) has been referenced a couple times, with direct mention of the crashed Acclimator.

At this point I just treat it the same way Young Justice apparently treats Green Lantern: The Animated Series aka it sort of happened if you ignore a few things.

Ventress originated in the 2D series which is big one, I'm not sure how I glossed over that lol.

Durge was concepted for the CG series, but they changed his character to be human because his abilities would have been too expensive to animate. Filoni scrapped the idea because that was a core part of his character and wouldn't be right, so they created Cad Bane instead. That's also basically the same reason why he decided not to make Galen Marek an Inquisitor in Rebels.

However he is canon again thanks to the comics.

Brotherhood, one of the more recent novels, makes all kinds of references to the 2D series. Windu's stuff, the debut of Grievous, Anakin's fighter battle with Ventress and at least obliquely references Anakin's duel with Ventress. Though in that latter case, the intensity of the storm, the deep jungle dark and the fury of the lightsaber duel are used to justify Anakin never getting a good look at Ventress and thus not recognizing her when she makes her public debut in the novel itself.

The two episodes introducing Ventress, Chapters 6 & 7, make up one of the high points of the microseries.

The 2D clone wars series is in kind of a weird place in that it's clearly not canon, and yet certain events depicted within it still *happened* more or less as they did on the show (allowing for it's highly bombastic OTT stylistic interpretation of course.)

The one that's probably shown up the most at this point in the Jedi Knighting ceremony. While we've never seen a canon version of Anakin's Knighting, every other one we've seen since has been patterned direction on that version.
Another fairly minor but logical one is how Artoo & Threepio changed owners between AotC & RotS; they were essentially exchanged as wedding gifts.
Some of that is likely due to some notes exchanged between the Clone Wars multimedia project (that including not just the animated show, but the tie-in books and comics as well) and the movie production people, some may simply be because some of the same people worked on both 2D and animated versions, and a good idea is a good idea.
Indeed the 3D show seemed to deliberately avoid retreading the same ground as the microseries, so some of those elements (like Ventress's recruitment) just got left in by default.

Speaking of which; I feel I should clarify that so far as I know Ventress, was not created specifically for the animated show as is often claimed. Both she and Durge were developed as part of the aforementioned clone wars multi-media project coordinated by LF licencing. Hence all of the related comics and novels coming out around the same time.
There's even a fun little connection there with 'Force Unleashed': The comics writer assigned to develop her character initially named her 'Juno Eclipse', but that was decided to not sound villainous enough (I think Leland Chee suggested the 'Throne of Blood' reference?) Said writer later worked on Force Unleased and re-used the rejected name for the love interest character.

It only made sense... Anakin needs an astromech, and Padme needs a protocol droid.

Something I've actually wondered about ever since Rosario Dawson was cast was if she and Ashley Eckstein had ever met or had any communication about the role. Apparently not, because the two meant for the first time when Ashley recently visited the Ahsoka set. Apparently, they hit it off just great.:)

No, no, no. Season 2 actually started to get more serious with the show. It also starts to tie into the sequel movies. While I'm definitely not a fan of the show I think season 2 was far stronger.

I remember reading awhile back that Rosario mentioned she hadn't met Ashley yet but was looking forward to whenever it happened.

That said, I'm glad it finally happened and they hit it off well. Hopefully Eckstein will get the chance to do a cameo for the second season, assuming there is one (there better be!)

Normally I don't like posting leaks/rumours unless they're solid, but this one if true sounds neat. Obvious grain of salt, and I won't be disappointed if it doesn't happen. I just thought it sounded neat.

The World Between Worlds will be used, and Ahsoka will glimpse alternate timelines where she took different paths. One being where she's the one to confront Anakin on Mustafar not Obi-wan. It will be used a plot device to teach Ahsoka that the path she is on is the correct one.

What If/alternate history stories is one of my favourite genres.
