One thing I really wish there had been more of on "Voyager" was seeing, or even just hearing about, how the crew came up with their own creative ways to entertain themselves, while stranded on a ship with limited resources.
We had Neelix's "Good Morning Voyager" show, and Tom's holodeck creations, an the occasional talent show or pingpong game in the Mess Hall, but I'd have liked more.
The "Enterprise Bingo" from "Strange New Worlds," and Dr. Crusher's stage plays from TNG, would both the type of thing that wpukdve been perfect for Voyager.
People going for walks on the ship's outer hull (with forcefields obviously), just to be somewhere else. Playing elevator games with the turbo lift. Maybe turning off gravity in a room, to "swim" in the air.
It'd have been great if, during a time when cabin fever and tensions were both high, a food fight broke out in the mess hall, that went from an angry brawl to everyone having a blast, except Neelix fretting over the wasted food.
If energy conservation limits holodeck use, that would make stage plays or hallway LARPing believable alternative. I can imagine Seven of Nine being pressured to play Lady Macbeth, and killing it.
What about people making scrap art out of old ship parts, or Borg debris. Or using space rocks to carve sculptures. (Arguably implied in "State of Flux," as Chakotay likely got his doodle rock from that planet rather than the replicator.)
I like to imagine that there were some popular book series in the Alpha Quadrant that were still going when Voyaher got lost; so the diehard fans onboard, accepting they might never learn the real ending, cake together in a writing club to make their own continuations of the series. Maybe something similar happened with a holonovel series, like "Dixon Hill."
Imagine Tom, Harry, Neelix and others dubbing over one of Tom's 20th Century cartoons from the database, a la YouTube poop. Or the entire crew enjoying a "Who's Line" style imprive activity. Or crewmembers just sitting around telling ghost stories.
On a final note, I'm surprised no one was shown on mentioned getting any pets to ease the loneliness out there--no small alien animals, or even holographic ones. Though maybe energy and food rations were an issue with that.
Thoughts?
