What are your controversial Star Trek opinions?

I don't know about 'almost everyone'. We saw a lot of people who played sports, played instruments themselves, loved to read, enjoyed food and traveling, and enjoyed holodeck programs that were very often a 24th century equivalent of the kind of games people play today. And there was certainly no shortage of alcohol lovers, either.

When Data fought against Sela, it was at extreme ranges.

And long distance fighting can be portrayed in space battles and done right.

Babylon 5 showed that you can do it correctly with the Battle of Gorash 7.
"Correctly."

Almost everyone in Trek is a wet blanket, whose idea of fun is going to see Data recite poetry in Ten Forward, or Harry Kim play his clarinet.

My idea of fun? The crew getting smashed in "Magic to Make the Sanest Men Go Mad". Real people, unwinding from real stress in believable ways.

In the future, mankind has evolved beyond the need to get absolutely hammered.

Or something.

Yeah, I guess there's no rock and roll in the future, and no one parties hard.

Except Tilly.

Controversial opinion: the colored food cubes in TOS look good. I mean, they're a rainbow of colors and were once even made of marshmallows tinted with food coloring. SNW needs at least one scene with Pike eating from a plate of them.
You might like freeze dried Starbursts.
"Correctly."
Glad I'm not the only one with that reaction.
I tried that a couple times. I ended up getting very dizzy. Then I thought to myself, "What the Hell do people see in getting high?!"
I have yet to enjoy it either and see no reason to waste my money on something that isn't fun.

God, that was awkward. Self-conscious and clumsy.

The chess club annual blowout in Francis' dad's finished basement.

It ranked with "Let's have the nerd girl say 'fuck.' Once."

I'd actually would kind of like it if they invented those nutrition cubes, I wouldn't even care what they would taste like. It would be so much easier to have a balanced diet if all had to do was scarf down half a dozen bright cyan coloured cubes. Especially during a working week.

I also assume they'd have to have a fruit-like texture, since otherwise people would have huge problems with plaque. Then again, they might have a magic toothbrush in their bathrooms were all they have to do is shine a blue light on their teeth to remove that.

In general a poor job is done on how people recreate.

The best food in the US Navy is found on submarines. I found during the pandemic lockdown that what was for dinner took on an exaggerated importance. People in restricted circumstances, like the inside of a Starship, are going to need good and interesting food and will want it more than usual.

I do not live on a submarine or a spaceship. I want those food cubes because they would save time and effort after/during a long day.

I think it might also be a change of taste and style over the decades. Nichols' version of Uhura both with her singing and ina appearance always reminded me of prominent black singers from that time period, like Diana Ross during the 1960s, which went for a more styled look/sound with her beehive wig and everything.
Gooding's Uhura on the other hand in her singing and appearance fits more with a modern idea of beauty that emphasizes a more natural, simple look/sound.
Kirk allowed his crew to drink on duty.

Some of them were bound to start singing.
