Happy Star Trek Day! Anyone Up for a One-Ep Rewatch This Weekend?

Happy Star Trek Day, all! Wow - 56 years.

To celebrate, this weekend I'm going to watch one episode that I rarely watch or have not seen in a long while. That necessarily excludes my favorites, and I haven't done a full series rewatch in some time.

I believe I've settled on "Patterns of Force." It's certainly no fan favorite, and it would probably miss the "cut line" to make it into the upper half (more or less) of my mythical, ever-evolving ranking of episodes. But there are many aspects of it that I like, particularly the Kirk-Spock interactions. I may not have seen it in five years or more. I'm curious to see what I think of it now.

Regardless, Happy Star Trek Day to those here on this forum who continue to celebrate this remarkable series and who, on a daily basis, increase my enjoyment of what will always be my favorite TV show.

Every September 8th at 7:30 pm, I watch "The Man Trap" with period commercials. It's my way of celebrating. I go back in time and just enjoy the ride. I've seen this episode so f'n often, it's sometimes hard to focus, but well, it's a tradition. I love early Trek with its in flux characterizations, early series weirdness and anthology feel. Spock whaling Nancy in the face with a double fist is still a WTF moment for a character who would become a lot more reserved and measured.

Agreed - that was one of Spock's most physical moments ever for sure. Too often, the plot called for him to be preposterously overpowered or ineffective in fisticuffs ("For the World Is Hollow and I Have Touched the Sky," "The Savage Curtain"). And most of the time he just slid in behind whoever was arguing or tussling with Kirk and administered the VNP. I'm not sure if this was a deliberate choice by the writers/producers or if it was due to Nimoy's self-admitted physical limitations, at least compared to Shatner.

That's a great way of celebrating. I hope you enjoyed the show last night.

I am watching "A Piece of the Action". I don't watch this episode often because it is over-the-top silly. I like other humorous episodes ("I, Mudd", "The Trouble with Tribbles"), but this one is just too much.

Interesting and thanks for the response. I think "I, Mudd" is the member of the "comedies" usually generating the sort of reaction you described, at least in these parts. Are there specific scenes in "A Piece of the Action" that push it over the top for you? Or is it the premise in general? Or something else?

The premise in general, plus Shatner's "gangster" routine. I love "I, Mudd"; it was thee first Trek episode I ever owned on home video, way back in the 80s.
