Great texturing @scifieric
Are you going for the Smithsonian look?

Hm. I never thought about it that way. The "Smithsonian look" is of course as close to the original look of the ship as we can get. The technology of the 1960's filming equipment and special effects tended to lose a lot of the detail on the ship. I was trying to get as close as I can to the look of the original model back in the day, and then recreate the effects of the show. So I suppose, the answer is: Yes!Great texturing @scifiericAre you going for the Smithsonian look?
Interesting. I wonder which novel? I'd like to read that! Now, wasn't there a novel where the TOS Enterprise got a little "cooked" getting too close to a pulsar? That would be an "after" shot.
Thank you, Sir! I greatly appreciate your encouragement!WHOA. The difference in verisimilitude just made a right turn at Albuquerque with the new textures on the saucer. You are definitely on the right track here.![]()
That is VERY kind of you!Great to see you back!

I also have another texturing challenge for myself when I'm done with that, but I think I'll wait to show you all ... just in case it doesn't work! LOL!
Thank you for the compliment and the great question!
Hello Santaman! Thank you for your very kind comments.Looking great, also nice to see this sort of WIP proceeding, this distinct colour you have on the saucer and neck is really interesting.![]()
You are correct, but there are really about three general versions. The original version was just plain old grey. You're welcomeI personally think of the Enterprise texture as two different versions - the "Smithsonian" version that is the filming model and the "Screen" version which is the starship that appeared on film. Because of the lighting the "Screen" version is the one I think about first. At the going rate your "Smithsonian" version will be identical to the real one

Honestly, that's probably what I will do. However, there are problems even with that. The Enterprise looked different in different episodes.Personally, I would go for what you remember from watching the series, that's probably how it would be most "correct" well again that's my personal take on it.![]()
Oh, build them all is the only way to go! LOL!Yeah, you kinda have to decide on which version to build (or build them all). Personally, I went a bit extreme and have been fiddling with a transforming version but that's still in-progress.
I agree with you about the band! Thank you for being so very kind! (I really mean that.)The circular band between outer ring 1 and middle ring 2 on the lower saucer looks slightly too dark. Otherwise this looks damn spot-on so far, Eric!
Thank you for your kindness!Looking good.
That colour does keep throwing me off because the rest of the hull is still grey.![]()
