That's actually just good old-fashioned makeup (albeit, if I'm interpreting this right, with a Mandolorian-style video-wall background, not a real set). You can see some behind-the-scenes photos here.

Apparently, when you're casting entirely for physical resemblance, you can get pretty close.

Hmm, I'm not sure I completely buy it. To my eye there's still some computer jiggery-pokery going on. Several of the shots that claim to be tests with an actor in prosthetics have the distinct look of deepfake enhancement to them. There's also a shot labeled as "Lawrence Selleck" where Spock has his mouth open and you can see Nimoy's distinctive lower teeth. At the risk of being too incredulous, I remain unconvinced that they're not at least tweaking his face digitally. I'd be very curious to see actual video of the behind the scenes stuff.

    Whatever they're doing, it's impressive.

It makes sense that Selleck looks like Nimoy. Selek was Spock's cousin and also looked like Nimoy. ;)

Looks interesting, something about an interactive holographic museum of Roddenberry's work on TOS and TMP. I did see a mention of the "Blockchain", so I do have some trepidation.

So cool. And have they beefed up the TMP uniform to give it a more pronounced collar and shoulder pads? Looks better somehow.

You're probably right. I don't remember that score, and I was only casually watching the new movie. Some cues reminded me of Goldsmith's Poltergeist score.

I find it gratifying that so many other appreciate the score for TMP as much as I do. After all these years, it remains not only my favorite ST movie score... It's my favorite movie score of all time.

Great stuff and it brings back great memories of that era when we only had the one Trek movie.

Before I go through the entire topic.....

I couldn't find if there will be a normal Bluray version of this or only a 4K? My blurayplayer isn't 4K unfortunately.

Yes, in the UK five-disc boxed set and separately in the US (because the US boxed set lacks the two Blu-Ray duplicates).

I think there will be Bluray of the DC but not the SLV.

Looks like we will be getting HD footage of Scotty and Ilia, plus the killed security guard (presumably without effects) and alternate dialogue including the dead security guard.

Also some HD memory wall footage will be included as part of the documentary, although unclear how much, or whether that will include any kind of dialogue or post production effects.

Still this is all pretty exciting stuff considering how old is this movie.

OrbitDVD.com is my local video store so I decided to try and buy the TMP set from them.

Me: Will you be carrying any copies of 'Star Trek: The Motion Picture: The Director's Edition: The Complete Adventure'?
Clerk: No. Star Trek does not sell.

    .... Amazon it is then.

Big change from going to the one FYE in town to get the silver two-disc DVDs a week early since they didn't respect street dates.

Anybody know 1) how long the 4K version is going to be gone from Paramount+, and/or 2) will iTunes ever offer it for sale?

(I am trying as hard as I can to avoid physical media.)

Can't you buy a digital code from somebody who buys the physical copy?
Are you referring to the directors edition of Star Trek the motion picture? Or another version of the movie?

Given what HBO Max pulled, you can pry physical media out of my cold, dead hands!

I don't think iTunes works that way.

Yep, the 4K version we're discussing here. For reasons I have yet to find out, Paramount+ will no longer be offering it, as of the end of this month. :(

Grant was talking about the digital 'code', not the digital 'copy'. If someone buys the 4K-UHD edition of TMP:DE that advertises a digital copy, they can sell or give away the digital code to someone else.
