Spoilers Star Trek: Picard General Discussion Thread

Hasn't Matalas all but admitted that Ro Laren is returning?

I mean, he said it's a recurring character from TNG, but no O'Brien. Who else could it be who's still alive and not already been used?

The only reason I'm starting to wonder if it's actually Ro is because Matalas refers to this character as a "deep cut". Ro was a really well-liked recurring character, enough so that she got a whole episode devoted to her departure, so I'm not sure if she could be considered that deep a cut. If we're going for "obscure, but still impactful", maybe someone like Sito Jaxa? She appeared in a couple of eps, the writers were always hoping to eventually show she survived, but it just never panned out.

I don't think he's ever specifically said it was a recurring character, just a character he felt needed to be revisited. It's largely fan speculation that it's Ro.

In terms of TNG recurring actors who are still alive/work: Dwight Schultz and Diana Muldaur are the only ones I can think of.

I think the character Matalas refers to as a deep-cut is in addition to another legacy character (possibly Ro) who has a larger role. The deep-cut one sounds like a cameo basically.

Okona?

If I may offer a small correction: We are supposed to already be attached because this is a love song to TNG and all the hope and positive vibes it represents. The fan boy's love song, as it were.

I can take or leave the TNG cast (I've always found Picard bloviating. I watch Picard for Seven of Nine).

Robin Lefler.

Ashley Judd broke her leg in Africa. She's been laid up for a while. :(

I don't think Matalas sounded boastful, just enthused about the project, which he should be. I'm just salty about that particular bit because nearly all the new characters we were supposed to love got swept out the door at the end of the last season to make way for the TNG cast, but we're supposed to get attached to this one.

That's fair. I won't be forgetting how stoked the production staff clearly felt about the new cast.

I still can't get over them not keeping Elnor around.

OK, but FYI constantly saying things like "to appease the fan boys" does convey both of those.

I cannot help your perspective. Reading the excerpts of the interview simply left me with the distinct impression of this season us for the TNG fans. How one feels will depend on one's relationship to TNG.

I'm just hoping she isn't killed off. :(

There was a bit of a discussion recently where Matalas made an off-handed remark on Twitter regarding Seven and Raffi that caused a bit of a stir because some people felt he was making fun of the “bury your gays” trope in some way (and told him so). He then deleted the tweet and apologized and

basically confirmed that Seven and Raffi survive.

So I wouldn’t worry too much here. :)

I think the hype for SNW is overblown.

I tried sitting through the pilot of SNW.

I found the plot predictable (I knew what was going to happen about halfway through the show).

It's not the Second Coming of Trek by any means.

Picard is a collection of three miniseries. SNW is episodic.

You're comparing apples and oranges.
The only problem with this post is that I could only give it a like once.

I like SNW, but definitely NOT to the same extent as a lot of other people. If it ended after this season, I wouldn't care. I would care, on the other hand, if PIC doesn't get a follow-up series of its own.

More than anything else, I'm not too happy that people bludgeoned us over the head about DSC and PIC for years. Literally years. And something like SNW is what it was all for?

Anyway, they have their pound of flesh now. So I hope they let us enjoy our shows in peace. Probably not.

Context, it isn't a legacy character, it's a brand new character Terry thinks will be a fan favourite.

There's another idea for a Seven spinoff (imagine Seven having to deal with a younger version of herself).

They have their show and they're complaining already about it being "woke".

This is NOT the 1960's! :scream:

I really hope Diana Muldaur is back as Dr. Pulaski, even if it is for just a cameo. Muldaur has recently made a film again after more than 30 years. So... you'll never know! #Pulaski4ever

I like SNW a lot, but 24th-century Trek is basically my second home, so I'd trade future seasons in for a 2500s show in a heartbeat.

And anyone who wants to argue with me that setting is irrelevant and stories are what matter, let me preempt you by saying I'd obviously prefer the stories aren't bad here...
