Tales Of The Federation - Akiva Goldsman wants anthology series with classic characters

If it were to happen, I wouldn't call it "tales of the federation ". Keep it wide open to any Star Trek based story, not just starfleet centric.

Maybe simply call it: "Star Trek Anothlogy" with the episode title representing the name of each independent story. ala short Treks.

The more I think about it, the more I warm to this idea of a STAR TREK anthology show. And I'd love to write for it.

One of my screenwriting goals is to bring back the anthology where every episode is a new story. I've written one noir pilot like that.

You might like Inside No. 9 - it’s a black comedy anthology series with stories that often have twist endings. It’s definitely partly inspired by The Twilight Zone.

Honestly, if they did the Enterprise C they should change all the design other than the ship exterior. Because other than the ship model it was an "era" defined primarily by "what do we already have on hand?"
The outside was heavily simplified due to budget also, so they might as well do whatever they want.

Ditto the uniforms, they didn't even bother with the belts or undershirts, making them look ultra cheap.

Like all of 3rd generation Star Trek, it doesn’t matter what was established before. Today’s Trek producers and writers are just going to do what they want. So if it was established earlier that Archer went out into space, but nuTrek says he’s on Earth, he’s on Earth.
Since alternative timelines became canon in the prime timeline, I now think of some of the newer Trek being alternative timelines.

My fanboy wishes for Trek:
Funny trek[CHECK: LOW]
Episodic nutrek[CHECK:SNW]
Anthology Trek for my OCD/ADHD tendencies [CHECK: SHORT TREKS]
And although they have checked the box, I feel like it's barely been explored. OPEN IT UP.
Tales Of The Federation is a damn good start.
I know its been shot down officially but never say never.
They could do Prodigy short treks with Voyager legacy characters.

I look at the Star Wars franchise for comparison
I love all the shorts and expansions like Visions which does the entire series in anime. Clever.
They brought Ewan McGregor back for 6 eps of Obi-Wan. Why not do 6 eps with Captain Worf?

I love the short form art style.
Akiva, I hope somehow you're reading this.
Make it so.

My idea of a hypothetical "first season" of "Star Trek: Anthology"

1-3 Citi Alpha V (Khan story)
4-5 Section 31 ( I would scrap the series and just include it here to gauge interest,)
5-6 Deep Space Nine Story (preferably with DS9 writers involved)
7-8 Seven of Nine story ( pilot to a new series?)
9-10 Picard "Movie"

I would use a short variation of the Star Trek Generations theme for the Star Trek Anthology title card. 30 seconds or less. Perhaps show a large starfleet delta shield with a Star Trek video montage featuring quick snipits from all incarnations flashing inside the shield. Then screen goes black and it shifts to the independent story with its own distinct title sequence and music.

The series would be given a 10 episode order and can run as separate episodes, parts of a miniseries or combined together and presented as a multi- hour "streaming movie" . Each episode/ movie will have its own title and be considered under the "Star Trek Anthology" series banner. They would be promoted as Paramount plus exclusives in the USA and the world. (Bell media in Canada)

IIRC, the only interiors we saw of the C was the bridge, which I think was redressed from the TMP movie bridge. As you say, the uniforms were just the jackets from the films (without even badges!), and the phasers were from TWOK. Realistically, in the year 2344 none of that should have been how anything looked. That bridge should have been far more advanced, and the uniforms and phasers should have been intermediate designs between the TMP movie era and the TNG era. Of course the budget didn't allow for any of that, although despite those limitations, we still got one of the best Star Trek episodes ever made.

With all that said, I would love to see an updated version of the C's interiors and uniforms/props. However, I'm completely fine with the Sternbach/Jein design as the exterior. I like the Probert version too, but at this point I'd rather it be another class of ship that came after the Ambassador class.

Like using Probert's original design.

I just killed this thread, didn't I?

Hell, TPTB didn't even want a new model built for the Enterprise-C. They would have had to use the Enterprise-A or the Excelsior filming models (either as the A or the B, or modified with add-on parts to make a different class like the Soyuz) if Greg Jein didn't quickly build the C model on time and under budget.

the ambassador class is one of my favourite atarship classes ever. Many years ago I designed a 2380 refit incorporating some elements from the Sovereign and also did sketches for an appropriate bridge and later a 2360s one.
