Klingons often sleep on flat metal surfaces. That tells you all you need to know.

Starfleet has no seat belts. OSHA was lost in WW3.

I think it varies by situation and departments & portrayals as to when they have Seatbelts.

Sometimes they go by rollercoaster style restraint bars.

    But I prefer Seatbelts, simpler.

They experimented with early seatbelts around 2164 since they're aboard the U.S.S. Franklin in BEY but then vanish for generations. The fold-down armrests in TMP hint at some sort of personnel securement technology but then once the TFF and TUC aesthetics roll around any form of seat restraints disappear again for decades.

The over reliance on Inertial Dampeners instead of basic restraints that are tried and true caused unnecessary injuries when people bounced around.

Been happening forever. Someone tries to do something cool and innovative while ignoring the simplest solution to a not-very-complex problem.

Think NASA Space Pen vs. the Russian pencil.

I concur, it happens all the time, but I do love the Space Pen, there is a cool factor to it. =D

Technology is supposed to help. So why not use it?

Why can't we just have it all?

Thigh Restraints + Seat Belts + Personal Force Field & Attack Turrets mounted to your chair in case of intrusion from a boarding party.

Also have weapons ready nearby incase you get invaded by hostile forces who tries to take the bridge.

It wouldn't be the first time somebody tried to invade and take over a ship.

Regarding seat belts, I almost wonder if Starfleet did a study and discovered that personnel were just as much to suffer injuries with or without them. They may offer some protection in circumstances where the artificial gravity or inertia dampers were compromised, but otherwise personnel could suffer injuries from straining against the restraints themselves. The ideal restraint could be a total harness system in which personnel are completely locked into place in their seats with limited freedom of movement.

But I guess obligatory exploding consoles would still get them that way...

Maybe if they didn't run Electro Plasma anywhere near the consoles, they wouldn't explode that way.

Running computer screens shouldn't consume that much power in the future. In fact, it should consume less.

The entire Bridge should have it's own isolated power supply, backup battery, and Mini Fusion power generator in case main EPS power is cut off or they intentionally cut it off from the rest of the ship.

I know, less dramatic things exploding, but if you were to design a bridge in a intelligent way; you wouldn't run EPS directly behind consoles or anywhere near them.

You just run normal electricity to each panel and handle EPS at the distribution tap to convert to DC power and feed it across the bridge's electrical power distribution lines to every station.

Youd think theyd Have fuses in the future..
Or.. If the computer sensed an overload in progress that it would re route the surge or At least warn or throw up a force field before the explosion/overload.

Hell, you would think there would be mini Circuit Breakers spread throughout everything to prevent an overload.

    I imagine that there are.

But in these dramatic recreations of captain's logs drama wins out.

Such intense surges that the circuit breakers explode?

It's purely for dramatic effect. Equipment has to spark, short out and explode for the threat in a given scene to be conveyed. I'd love to think and hope that by at least the 22nd century the computer consoles aboard human spacecraft won't explode into a shower of hot sparks if a meteoroid so much as grazes the side of the ship but, hey, for 20th and 21st century entertainment it sure gets the point across even if it's silly. ;)

Sparks & Smokes, sure. That's what happens when power going wrong on your electronics goes awry.

But previously, with rocks falling out, random wooden debris poorly repainted pop out, shrapnel flying out.

    That's too much.

I would prefer a more realistic & sensible approach to doing things.
