HBO's "Westworld", starring Anthony Hopkins/produced by J.J. Abrams

I thought the finale was well executed overall. I’m worried now it’s going to turn out that we are all in the sublime undergoing Dolores’ test.

What I didn’t like was the assumption the human survivors wouldn’t last long just because humans bad. That seemed, I dunno, “Easy-edgy”. They didn’t give us any solid story reasons that the outliers would automatically kill each other besides the show’s general misanthropic thesis.

But now I think we can reasonably assume the last scene in season 2 happened in Dolores’ game.

Come to think of it I again forgot to wait till the end of the credits.

Did we ever find out exactly what transcending was? We saw them taking the pearls out and putting them in the other device but that's all. I assumed they were being uploaded into the cloud, being pure software like the sublime hosts, but in the real world's networks instead of the sublimes locked hard drives. I can't recall ever seeing a clear answer on that though.

There wasn't anything post credits.

Yeah, Delores said they will all die, no other reason was given for why they will die. Unless when she was in the sublime she saw Bernard's simulation data, or ran her own.
Edit to add: Rehoboam apparently stated it as well, people are sharing screenshots from season 3

We also never found out if Halores was telling the truth about being able to fix the human-host upload like she told Caleb she could.

I once again just couldn't stay away from Spoilers, and so I'm left feeling frustrated about some things right now, although not to the degree that I was after the end of Game of Thrones, and I think the difference is that with Westworld there was actually precedence for things to go in the direction that they went and so while I might be frustrated and disappointed that there was a lie told about the nature of one particular character in Season 4, there are at least narrative fallback justifications for that lie that didn't exist with GoT.

ugh - what a mostly whimper ending of season 4 (and maybe the series*)

*according to Joy/Nolan renewal hasn't been confirmed/given.
*Ed Harris earlier this year stated filming starts next (2023) April - which would mean 2024 at the earliest

  • why didn't Chekovs Bernards gun go off (yet), which he hid in one of the entrance attempts with Maeve in the tunnel?

So Bernard's hiding the gun in the tunnel was indeed part of the plan

didn't like
  • the way Stubbs died - wanted a more badass/heroic death
  • Celementine going the wrong way to go about freedom/survival
  • no Maeve in some shape or form :weep:
  • very little Bernard in some shape or form :(
  • focus on Cristina/Dolores/Teddy
  • Halores badass upgraded "metallic carbon" host body was in use just once...
liked
  • Halores vs MIB talsk and fights
  • enjoyed Halores pearl crushing MIB and herself later - tough the creepy quarter split open face is still nightmare stuff.
  • glad host 270-something Caleb stayed back on the pier (the character has run it's course IMO)
  • Cristina's fictional roommate (which was an underused character and actress IMO) seeing the beautiful things - as she said in the park.
happy
  • Frankie/C made it on the boat
sad
  • still wish we had get to see Felix support Maeve in some shape or form in later season's.
????
  • that post-credits scene at the end of Season 2
  • IF season 5: could Dolores somehow restoring humanity through host bodies - accomplishing what humans and Halores failed to do — but why would she bring back MIB/William?

Every game has it's rules, we just need to know how to break them - Maeve

The humans seemed different in this episode vs last. Last week it looked like William turned them into frenzied monsters, pretty much 28 days later rage zombies. This week they were cool, calm, terminators. Planning out murders. Like camping with a sniper rifle.

Surprised no one has mentioned Steven Ogg and his baseball bat, referencing his GTA character.

My only hope for the final season, Maeve makes a full return. Not the cyber/sublime version, but the real O.G. version.

*Stubbs would be a nice addition too.
