Doctor Aspden could have been Angel’s identity before they transitioned. They might have given that life up to go ‘space pirate’ and taken on the name of ‘Angel’. I hope that I don’t cause offense to anyone by assuming that Angel has transitioned, they might not have done. This was never clarified on screen. We don’t even know their race. All we know is that this character is gender neutral and a pirate. We have no further technical details as of yet. Perhaps this will all be clarified upon Angel’s next appearance in Star Trek.I suppose they could be one of the hundreds of species that are indistinguishable from humans, but when in doubt, I would just go with human.
The person Captain Angel was impersonating, Dr. Aspen, was identified as human, so it would make sense for Angel to be the same for when they got scanned as they beamed aboard, or with a medical tricorder.
Dr. Aspen was a real person separate from Angel's false identity, because Angel mentions leaving them stranded on an uninhabited planet.Doctor Aspden could have been Angel’s identity before they transitioned. Doctor Aspden could also be an identity used by Angel for subterfuge. Harry Mudd did the same thing when he called himself Leo Walsh. I do think that Doctor Aspden was a real person though, so either Angel killed and replaced them taking on their identity or Angel is *still* what was Doctor Aspden in a new persona/‘rebirth’. What do you think?
Oh, I missed that bit. Maybe that is what Mudd did to Leo Walsh too.Dr. Aspen was a real person separate from Angel's false identity, because Angel mentions leaving them stranded on an uninhabited planet.
No, I'm lying about this extremely unimportant thing to win a non-argument on the internet.Assuming that you are telling the truth as I can’t be bothered rewatching the episode tonight, couldn’t someone go and rescue Dr Aspden? They might still be alive…. Unless they has died as a result of being abandoned by Angel? If Angel mentioned that they had marooned a Federation citizen who might even been a commissioned Starfleet officer, then surely the crew have a duty of care and should launch a rescue mission?
Angel refers to Dr. Aspen by the pronoun "them", so it's possible. Or Angel is just using their preferred pronoun out of habit. If you were being very thorough though and wanted to have your story stand up to a detailed background check, it would make sense to take the identity of someone who closely matches your own description. Was Dr Aspden gender neutral too? Why did Angel ‘target’ someone so similar to herself? This is too much of a coincidence? Or did they specifically target a fellow gender neutral/trans character as part of their cover?
Thanks for the clarification, I can’t wait to see Angel and Sybok reunite. No, I'm lying about this extremely unimportant thing to win a non-argument on the internet.
Spock: "Where's the real Dr. Aspen now?"https://tvshowtranscripts.ourboard.org/viewtopic.php?f=1328&t=54015
Angel: "Probably still wandering around the uninhabited planet I dumped them on. What? It's not like I killed them."
Spock: "Where are the colonists?"
Angel: "Oh. Them? Imaginary."
In 2259, the pirate Captain Angel assumed Aspen's identity for a plot to capture the USS Enterprise and free their lover Sybok. They left the real Aspen stranded on a planet. (SNW: "The Serene Squall")https://memory-alpha.fandom.com/wiki/Aspen

Angel says they left Dr. Aspen alive, so the presumption is that the uninhabited planet has a breathable atmosphere, a survivable climate, and that Aspen is not going to be eaten by the native wildlife the moment they were dropped off. The assumption is that they were rescued by the Enterprise offscreen. It's just not important enough to show, because you know Pike is not the type to leave someone to die alone when there's something he can do about it.
a detailed background check...
You forgot to mention working restrooms. The Federation will be instituting this practice shortly after Starfleet installs seatbelts and other basic safety devices in the operational areas of their vessels.
The supporting technologies for all of this were lost during the Eugenics War in the mid-21st century.

Of course they did. Pike and Starfleet in general are not the type to leave someone stranded on a planet. It's just implied, not something necessary to show onscreen.I hope some went to get them afterwards...
Captain Christopher "STARFLEET doesn't leave anyone behind" Pike probably didn't mention it and they're still stranded...I hope some went to get them afterwards...
